Hello tuggy people, have just joined the forum and thought i`d say hi.

I come from southampton and this year have got into r/c tugs,i 1st had the billings bankert (i think thats how its spelt),got the bug so bought the Smit Nederland and competed in the SWAMBC tug towing competitions and in my first time doing anything like that won the championship.
I have since sold the Nederland and have now got the Portgarth.
I`m in the merchant navy, not tugs!,so didn`t have an advantage

Oh shame that happend,I`ve got a pair of decaperms,6v,gearbox motors, the original ones which the guy at westbourne said were the best and about £60 each when new,i would like £75 for the pair if he`s interested,i`m only going on what he said price wise, and they in excellent condition.
Yes the Nederland is a good boat, always like it.

Welcome  Capt Jack, to the forum. do you have any pics of the nederland?. Iam just starting this kit myself, but am having trouble with finding pics of the colours and how to install the running gear. Any help will be much appreciated( and if i ever get to Southampton, there will be a pint or a rum on the bar for you). Cheers, Chris.

try taking a look at this site.

http://www.tugphotos.co.uk/

look under S and there are pictures of Smit Denmarken, Finland, Rusland, Zweden - all in the same class as Nederland.  Interesting point is, having been on board several of them, the hawse holes at the bow have been welded closed on most of them, and can be seen blanked over in the pictures.  You can also see that the yeoow/ blue stripping on the bow section is totally different to the pictures on the model box, and the stripes hown round the fron of the wheelhouse are not there in full size.

On the Zweden, you can clearly see what appears to be a yellow striped oil drum on top of the wheelhouse.  This is in fact full of concrete and set into a frame where it is held upright by a pin and cable.  This is an emergency tow release system, a handle in the roof of the wheelhouse can be pulled to release a pin, causing the drum to swing down, and this is attached to a cable system which runs down and releases the tow line.

You will also find all the various versions of the Smit Denmarken here, don't get to distracted though, you will wonder where time went.

;DHi Steve, Nice to hear from you mate. Hope your not working that dredger to hard.
I am still very happy with the Smit Denmarken, She is a good boat but the motors were rubbish. I have just bought a pair at the Warwick show so will see if I can melt one of the new ones. I hope to see you at one of the tug comps on the south coast in 2007. Having trouble joining a club locally that is affiliated. May join the Poole club as I like it down there. Cheers for now Glyn :Phttp://

Greetings Captain jack recommended I join you all on this board! ;D

I'll introduce myself,   Richard (I'm the "dry dock" king)

I haven't yet got my own vessel but I am slowly erring on getting "Tito Neri" or the "Parrat"
Both have the wow factor for me and to build the vessel in front of MY CAPTAIN would be such a buzz

I have enjoyed reading the posts on this site
Great stuff :) :)
