Hot air balloon, plane, Superman, UFO?
« on: August 17, 2009, 08:12:06 pm »

Last night here in Peterborough, about 9pm we saw a "flame" travelling across the sky, 'steadily' West to East.

1. We (a dozen or so) all thought it was a hot air balloon but do Hot air balloons fly at night?
2. The flame was constant speed 50-100mph (?!?), at a guess 300-1,000 feet, (couldn't tell) and travelling without sound.
3. If it was a balloon, why was the flame constantly on but the envelope didn't light up as I've seen many times?
4. If it wasn't a balloon but a plane or helicopter, why no sound and what plane has a constant 'yellow' flame coming out of it?

Dear Perplexed of Peterborough, keep taking the pills, you know you shouldnt stop. Next thing you will be on E'Bay buying junk, oops sorry you've already been there.

As I said keep taking the medication and everything will appear normal again.

100mph hot air balloon, really !!

There were unsubstantiated reports last night of a collection of pranksters sending up helium balloons with 'chinese lantern' type lamps suspended beneath them.

Lots of anxious phone calls across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and maybe now beyond?

Maybe one got as far as you Martin?

Funny, that was on the radio today...Robert D is correct about the Chinese Lanterns. The thin blue line are not happy about this caper, but quite what they can do to stop I don't know.

Rich,

Great song that. Clearly, like me, you are one of the few who didn't think Bowie had gone off his rocker!

However, going back to Martin's original sighting......here in France I too saw a pretty spectacular flare in the sky. I was letting the dog out for her last trot around the garden when I saw a bright red object trailing a long yellow tail. It passed to the north east of where I live for several seconds (sort of Peterborough direction!!!!!). I assumed it was part of the asteroid belt burning up as we had been told to expect.

Here we have little light pollution as all the street lights go at at 23hrs. With the lack of a moon, for the last ten days we have had superb star shows.

One of my favourite French sayings: "Un repas pas de vin est comme un nuit pas des etoiles" ("A meal without wine is like a night without stars").

I much prefer the original version by Klaatu...

I can confidently confirm that these were launched from a field to the west of Cropredy Folk Festival on Sunday night. 'Cos (as Max Boyce would no doubt have said) "I was there".

(And that also explains why I've not been able to contact you).

Originally written by Klaatu, way back when...it appeared on the album 'Hope'.

Side one, track one. A far superior version than The Carpenters....IMHO

"In your mind you have abilities you know
To telepath messages through the vast unknown
Please close your eyes and concentrate
With every thought you think
Upon the recitation we're about to sing

Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary, most extraordinary craft

Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary, most extraordinary craft

You've been observing our earth
And we'd like to make a contact with you

We are your friends

Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants and interplanetary ultra-emissaries

We've been observing your earth
And one night we'll make a contact with you

We are your friends

Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary, quite extraordinary craft

Please come in peace we beseech you
Only a landing will teach them
Our earth may never survive
So do come we beg you
Please interstellar policemen
Won't you give us a sign
Give us a sign that we've reached you

With your mind you have ability to form
And transmit thought energy far beyond the norm
You close your eyes
You concentrate
Together that's the way
To send the message
We declare World Contact Day

Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary, most extraordinary craft

Ahhh

Calling occupants
Calling occupants
Calling occupants
Calling occupants
Calling occupants of interplanetary, most extraordinary craft"
