HMS Swiftsure (C08) Colour Scheme
« on: August 02, 2009, 02:11:17 pm »

Hello everyone,

Recently bought the HMS Swiftsure off the dreaded ebay!

I'm not overly sure about the colours that were used, antifouling looks too bright (usually use Humbrol 70), not sure about the forecastle in red.

Builder did serve on the swiftsure so it's probably just me  :embarrassed:.

pics are attached any help would be good.

Thanks Charles

Hi Charles,

If you follow the following link and click on photo 5 there is a picture of another HMS Swiftsure in a similar paint scheme as yours (the colour shades are a bit different):

Hi Roger, the deck colours are completely different in photo 5 to those in Charles' photo.

I think it is the shades of colour that are different Dicky. The foc'sle is red, the main deck is grey and the quarterdeck is wood (or wood coloured) in both models, but I think the metal deck should probably be a darker colour grey on Charles' model as it is in photo 5. The anti-fouling does seem a bit bright and shiny too. Profile morskie produce a small book about Swiftsure that is very useful, the text is in Polish but it is full of many good pictures and drawings and a colour pull-out of the ship in wartime camoflage paint scheme.

Thanks for your help everyone,

The antifouling is definitely miles off and the metal deck has too much blue.

Looks like a painting session :D

At the moment I'm trying to plumb in one of marks smoke generators tight squeeze but should fit!

I've never heard of Profile Morskie but I've just ordered one of their deck plans if it's any good I'll get the book.

Thanks Charles

Charles, just a small point, your battle ensign on the mast is a little on the large size. :-))
