BATTLESTAR GALACTICA- THE NEW VERSION?
« on: August 12, 2009, 11:29:14 pm »

Hi guys any one seen or is watching this at the minute? I have been watching it over and over since I got it as a box set for Chrimbo and have just got the "Final season" Seriously good tv if you are in to Sci Fi?
It is like understanding why we the humans need to be exterminated, sorry to say but, with a twist? So much stuff has happened already and is still happening and as the story goes will happen again.

SORRY, if I am going off on one?
AWESOME special effects by the way.

I've got the miniseries, the first three series proper and Razor, but haven't got around to buying the last series (parts 1 and 2), spent too much money on models  :-)). Really good stuff though, will get to it eventually.

I won't spoil it for you though.
If you tend to get emotional it will make you cry.

I only ever watched the original movies way back in the late 70's when I was into making Colonial Viper models and learned what weathering was all about!  Maybe I need to have a look at some of the later stuff.

It's unreal Richard, the CGI in some of the episodes cost more than a full movie.

PS, Take it from one who knows.

It is very good

One of the original cast memebers, who played Lee Adama, in the 70s is one of the producers.
He really wanted to resurect the franchise, but did not want to do a poor job of it, and so he waited till it could be done right.

There is some excelently written charachters, well scripted and believable plots. There also seems to have been a lot of research into military life, attitudes, internal politics, leadership (good and bad), prejudice, drinking, and they have even got around the problems of bad language in the military. They have invented a swear word of thier own "fack", and so we have: 'frack this', 'frack that', 'you fracker', 'fracking unbelievable'. Well you ger the frakin' idea.

The Batlestar Galactica new series is fracking good.

OK guys question.  The original series in the 80's ran for I believe 24 episodes, is the new series completely seperate from that one?  Can I get a boxed set of the whole of the new series and how many seasons have there been?

The new series is completely seperate from the old one. It comes in 4 seasons though the last one is split in to two because of the writer's strike. There is also a miniseries that precedes the first season, as they didn't know if they would have enough money to do the whole thing, and a one off 'movie' called Razor. The basic premise is the same as the original series and Richard Hatch, the guy who played Apollo in the original series, is in it (but not as Apollo). You can get the whole thing on DVD and it's brilliant!!!! :}

The original series came out in 1977. They did a second season in the 80's based on Earth which no one ever talks about. ever.

The new Battlestar does all the things Sci Fi should. Ask questions and tackles real life issues. It's also cracking good entertainment and you can get the whole lot on box set (mini series, Razor series 1-4) all for under £40 on the interweb. good stuff.

The fact that it only runs for 4 seasons is also one of it's best points. it doesn't woffle on for years just because TV big wigs want a few extra bucks. The got the point across and moved on.

However, for those true geeks among us there is going to be a spin off series.

Sci-fi geek signing off...

Yeah Jonny, it's called Caprica. I have seen the Pilot episode, it looks good. It's all about Comander Adama's father and him as a boy, plus the original Cylon designer and his daughter that brings them in to being in the first place. This looks good too! There is also another film due out Directed by Edward James Olmos who plays Adama, but, this time it is from the Cylon point of view, he says the special effects are breath taking, lots of battles etc.

Favourite bit?

All of it! Beginning to end!

Fabulous production.... I'm getting withdrawal symptoms.

My wife prefers the 'camp' '70s version... This one's 'too gritty' apparently....

The ship yard getting trashed is the best bit for me in that, plus the kick back to the origional version.
 Brilliant.

Sorry Tiger, there are some very poinyant bits in it if that is how it is spelt? I like the Pan pipes here and there and I am looking for that tune!
They need to make a soundtrack of all the music they used in this.

Even the one at the end, I bet it would be good "danced up"

 What dya reckon?

Paul, I agree completely with you. The beginning miniseries sent shivers up my back every time a nuke went off, in space and on planet. I really liked the tie in to the original series with the museum hangar on Galactica. The ending was panned a bit in the US, but I think it was perfect. 'we should be able to mate with them'!! Good stuff. I felt the middle of series 2(or was it 3, can't remember now) was a bit long in the tooth, but they got back to decent action later. And having Adama building a sailing ship was cool as well!

Of course, it's always nice to see decent productions made in Canada.

Hi Darren, yes alot of it was actually filmed in Canada. Have you noticed the other 4 Colonial warships within the fleet that never get a mention? This is besides Pegasus in season 2 and they are all there in the end?
 How odd!
