How long to charge batteries?
« on: August 18, 2009, 11:25:10 am »

Hi,
I have recently purchased a Ni-MH 3800mAH 7.2V battery. I am not sure how long to charge it for, and don't want to damage it.
My existing charger is a 7.2V 250mA charger.
How long should I charge this battery for?

21 hours from fully discharged. At 250mA you're not going to do any serious damage even if you were to leave it on for a lot longer.
There's a whole heap of theory and practice behind this, but if that's all you want to know then good for you! "Keep it simple" suits me.

FLJ is a natural genius and these matters are built in to his psyche

For mortals -  your batteries are nominally 3800mAh capacity, and your charger is pushing 250 ma into them do you divide 3800 by 250 getting 15.2 hours.

But it needs longer for several reasons too nitpicking to mention (unless  you really want to know) so you push the duration longer to take these into account - in this case adding 50% more time
