WW2 Illustrious Length: 743.75 ft (226.70 m)

Therefore 4ft model will be about 1:186 scale, odd size ?

Would think 1/192 will suit ?A more conventional scale. I can supply a Walrus at this scale but who could supply Carrier aircraft ? A search on the net may produce results .

Might be worth asking the question on the Modelwarships uk forum in the aircraft carriers section.

I am sure someone showed me Albacores Swordfish and Wildcats for a HMS Victorious he is building.

Can't remember who though sorry.

You can get 1/200th Grumman Avengers here:

You have to make them up yourself from lasercut card, but they are quite cheap.

I think Illustirous Carried the Blackburn Skua (Fighter / Dive bomber) with the 890-hp Bristol Perseus XII sleeve Valve engine they were withdrawn operational service in 1941 and were replaced with Fairey Fulmars (800 & 806 Squadrons) and Hawker Sea Hurricanes (No# 801 & 803 Squaderons) Fairey Swordfish from No's 813, 815, 819 & 824 Squadrons also served on board Illustrious ... Albacores were carried on board HMS Formidable in 1940-41 in 42/43 they were replaced by Fairey Barracudas (no 810 squdron on Illustrious in sept 43)or Grumman Avengers ....Flight trials for the Fairey Firefly were carried out on board Illustrious at the end of 1942 in Late 1941 a Mk VB Spitfire fitted with an arrester hook was flown on Illustrious for compatibility trials( This later becane the Sea Fire .... So it would seam you have a vast choise of aircraft you could display on deck
Hope this is some help to you
