Well, all complete and ready to get her sea legs. Remember, this is my first kit of this sort since elementay school days and I've learned alot. Many thanks to all of you for your input, the fine folks at Model Slipways ( esp. Jackie ), Dave at Action, Terry Small for his article in MB and input and advise along the way.
Weather permitting we'll be at the pond this weekend.

Well, she passed her sea trials for the first 5 minutes and brought her back in to check if any heat on motor. Nyet! but when I put her back in for a photo op, the propshaft slipped out of the rubber coupling once under way. With no one else around I hit panic stations as she was several feet from shore, luckily the wind was in my favour and blew her in to shore with nada damage. :embarrassed:Anyway, went to Hobby shop and purchased bore collar to eliminate this from happening again. Wiil try again Sunday and get pics Looked mighty fine for 5 minutes though O0

Well thought I'd give her another go as the rubber coupling kept slipping, so it was replaced with pvc tubing, a little tweaking and off to another local pond in Paignton as the swan has become down right aggressive.
She sailed very well. I must admit I was expecting more speed, but nevertheless, I'm quite chuffed.
Thanks again lads!

I was right chuffed and could not have done it without the help I receive on this forum. O0

Rob
You might try a smaller NiMH pack e.g. one with AA-sized cells instead of Sub-C. My little 20" Swordsman uses a 6-cell Sanyo NiCAD with a Speed 400 and goes like smoke. You don't get as much run-time, of course, but you can't have both!

Rob
Be very careful planning your installation with that kit - it'll roll on wet grass if you don't get it right! I bet there are dozens of threads about building them; best research as far as you can.

Ok , I have a conundrum now, as I want a bit more speed. There is a 385 motor in there now, any suggestions on more speed without going the water-cooled route.    :-\

Deans Marine Kestra motor with 9.6V 4300mAh racing pack fine pitch 2 bladed prop 45mm

Works for me and gives a run time of approx 35-45 mins..  O0

OK Robert

Water cooling is easy only two small holes, an inlet tube, an outlet tube, cooling coil and silicone tube. O0

Hi Robert check out this link http://www.alwayshobbies.com/Store/Model-Boats/Radio-Control-Boats/Robbe-PT$915-Torpedo-Boat

This is how my PT boat behaves with the set up I have suggested, You might get away with a 7.2V battery as mine will just about plane with one, but I use the 9.6V because my PT boat is larger than your boat. O0

think i got her sussed out now Richard, was looking at Cornwall model boats motors section and they do my supplied 385 MFA/como 5 pole, which has max efficiency at 12v@12,000rpm, whereas the 380 3 pole is rated at max efficiency on 7.2v @19000rpm. Clever lad aren't I, saves drilling holes in my hull, besides I'd have to cut a hole in the internal tray, not. Hmmm, think I'll go for a universal coupling while the logs are been sawn across the way here. And they say the forest industry is loud {-)

...can't believe its been over a year since I first hit the water, after the brine incident, and frying the original 385, I've put in a Graupner 400 with mechanical coupling, the motor sits forward a bit but held in well with elastic band, but after a slow initial check on things it didn't matter as she flew right up on the planes at proper scale speed. Anyway, checked out the motor temp and very warm, elastic band even snapped, others suggested water cooling on another thread but for those who have built this kit you'll know the access is limited.
I was thinking of a bendable wired in harness of sorts and just  keeping the speed down to short runs. Any opinions?

Robert
...well done to England tonite 3-0 :-))
