24" Damen style harbour tug
« on: September 08, 2009, 05:11:17 pm »

Hi all

The first hulls out of the mould but as i have'nt got a photo of her yet i thought i'd post a pic of the plug in one half of the mould. The moulds in three peices due to the shape of the stern so a little removal of the flange lines was needed but nothing too much. The fitting out of the deck was a bit of a pig as its completely removeable and held down with stainless countersunk m4 machine screws to give a flush fitting deck. It's designed for two of the graupner schottel units but the build has halted while i work on another plug for a modern tug that will be easier to mould and for a single 60mm kort with a bow thruster.I'll post more pics later in the week but it's approx 30 ish inches long with a 820bb torque motor (wonder if i'll have enough power?!).

More pics as promised.

The deck is from epoxy with a foam core to stiffen it up without adding too much weight. It's completely flat so hopefully it'll look good once its got a texture on it (sand?) and a coat of paint, the marks on the hull are just filler and some smears of resin that will be rubbed down before painting. The hulls are really nice when they come out of the mould with no defects it's just i was in a hurry and things got a bit messy!.
enjoy.
