Dear Kenny, Rich,
Thanks for the replies guys. It's a real boon having the benefit of your knowledge and makes the build much more pleasurable.
I've been holding off fixing the shafts in case I ought to be modifying them, although I assumed a good greasing would last a lightly used season. You have confirmed what I thought and am happy to fit them now. In any case I will be able to remove the rudders to slip the inner shafts out backwards when needed. Thanks.
I have gone for 2x 12v 7aH lead acid batteries, 2x Graupner Speed 900 BB motors, 2 Electronize FR30HX 30amp speed controllers for the main drive, 1x 6v 3aH lead acid for the included bow thruster, rudder servo, receiver and lights. I have a Viper Mtroniks 15a controller for the bow thruster.
I am making this model more for the build than the running, so am keeping it simple for now but will allow for changes at a later date. I confess I have taken advice from whoever would give it! I found Mark at AModelWorld was really helpful and he spent a long time asking questions before he would sell me anything. I'll let you know how these bits work together when fitted. It is a leap of faith at the moment. (my last r/c model was a 1/6 scale yacht with no drive motor so I have little experience to call on)
Chris
