Sorry Greg,

 But I've removed your post commenting about the service you personally received from Metals4U - http://www.metals4u.co.uk/

  A solicitor representing Metals4U "invited" me to remove it.

Such a heavy handed approach is always taken by pollies, at least in OZ, who don't want (maybe can't stand) scutiny by you or I.
Obviously not 4Mee

I completely understand Martin,

I hope this hasn't caused you any bother other than having to remove the post.

However if push came to shove I have all the email correspondence still so 'hearsay' and 'opinion' don't come into it.

...who don't want (maybe can't stand) scutiny by you or I.

Quite!

Not a particularly good way of running a business......... They have just alienated 5500 potential customers!!!

How many mayhemers will be using this company now?

well from the speed of the response , it may be something they don't like happening to them on web sites , Most company's would take weeks to decide and get a solicitor representing them then contact a site , must be use to doing it .

but why would they be ???

Peter

now off my list. thanks for the heads up, Greg

As I didn't read the original post I don't know what the alleged problems are with this company - may we be given a quick precis of the problem
in a way in which this company could not find fault.

Gondolier might be better advised to find some of the fora which specialise in reporting on and discussing customer service. http://whatconsumer.co.uk/forum/ is one such in the UK - ones in the US are much more robust in defence of free speech. Then if he wants he can post a reference to it, which the relevant company can neither detect nor do anything about.

Attempts to close down discussion of perceived failings are always a very poor public relations move for any commercial organisation. It would be far better for them to approach Mayhem for a 'right of reply' - customers are not fools and if the company has a case they will appreciate commercial realities. It also gives the company the opportunity to offer some settlement and be seen as magnanimous in public - a kind of advertising which is worth its weight in gold.

But leaving customers knowing that Metals4U have an undisclosed disagreement with a customer and have elected to use legal threats to stop discussion of it - that rules them out of consideration for my business...

As I'm not going to name any names;

There once was a company who proclaimed they were 'the p***le the trade go to!' [but without stars in it]

They had very reasonable prices and an innocent modeller decided to spend some of his hard earned cash on some sheet brass to finish a project with a deadline.

This company's website was very flash and the stock was comprehensive and impressive to say the least.

The modeller ordered his brass sheet...

In a couple of days said modeller came home from work to find his brass sheet was a shiny pinky brown material, hmmm, said the modeller I'm fairly sure brass is yellow and shiny, and I'm also fairly sure being a plumber that this sheet is copper, well I'll be blowed, I wonder if I'm going to meet that deadline now? (or something similar!)

Modeller was very surprised that the experts at the company, where the trade go, would mix up brass and copper.

Feeling slightly put out by experts incompetence he sent a rather strong, but polite and fair email to the company;

"Hi,

I have recieved the order below in good order, however it is the wrong delivery- as you can see I ordered BRASS- however you have despatched the right size sheet in COPPER.

I would like to know what you have in mind to rectify the situation- I specifically need BRASS and I need it asap.

In anticipation,

G--- S------ [modeller]"

Modeller then recieved a rather short and irate reply;

"Hi sorry about that, someone mada a MISTAKE and picked the worng item. we will swop it over on MONDAY"

Modeller thought that was at least a reasonable offer, a delay was then declared by the courier, which the company told Modeller about.

The replacement was correct, and to boot the courier forgot to pick up the returning copper sheet.

Modeller's gripe was that how could a company with a profile such as the one mentioned find it possible to mix up copper against brass? Are they staffed by moles who work in the dark???

I was happy with the product, but not the stupid mistake, nor the clever reply.

Modeller will not be shopping with a certain company any mrore, and out of curiosity decided to see if fellow modellers had had similar experinces with this company, or whether it was just a one off...until company decided that an accurate recording of events was too much to take, and their reputation didn't need knocking [anymore?!?].

Silly company, unhappy company,one customer short company.

Briefly annoyed, copper rich and supplied from somewhere else modeller.

All's well that ends well eh?

I have just read you last post and the included reply from the company, they have said that they made a mistake and would sort it out and a date when it would be sorted out and when there was a problem with the courier they kept you informed, you have received the correct item and you still retain the material sent in error. The reply wasn't rude and was factual though their spelling was a bit off, what more do you want.

What I wanted was confirmation that this was a one off, if it hadn't been it would serve as a warning example to others thinking of spending with them.

Someone who professes to be 'the place' to go, then makes such a fundamental mistake as getting a metal that is the wrong colour, not a slightly different grey like all the steels are, mixing up brass and copper is very worrying, and when your'e relying on someone who is an expert to meet a deadline, when they turn out to be an incompetent fool it's a tad annoying.

"Martin there's a very nice ex-RAF air defence Nuclear Bunker for sale in Fife if your interested"

Those of us living around the A14 corridor are made of sterner stuff, when the tank busters took the end of your TV Ariel during their practice runs down the A14 a few years ago you just used to stick a g'sunder on you head and show them two digits. They hunted in pairs, the first one scared the pants off you but you were ready for the second one. Those of us with a more military bent used to dress with the handle to the left.

Greg, I've had a look on their website and they don't sell chocolate so there's no fear of that.

The long Build, yes but it's all good clean fun, oh and Belgian if you please.
