Come up with a ( or publicize an existing ) simple and endurable plan that modellers can 'have a go at' with
bits of stuff already lying around the workshop. I seem to remember a kit or plan (SLEC?!?!) that was based on
plywood and foam pipe lagging.......
( The Springer tugs were based around parts from RC cars; 540 motor, 7.2 volts & 2 channel radio, you could do the same! )

This got me thinking, so I started to build myself a pipe lagging airboat. This is so simple to do, I cut a piece of hardboard to size, which I will glass over later, cut some pipe lagging to size and I was away. The motor mounts were from a 13 foot sailplane that I've never actually fitted a motor to. The engine rails are 1/16" ally right angle, the engine bolts directly on.
Not being of the electric persuation, I'm powering it with an old Irvine 15 buggy motor. I was given it some time back and never run it, though it looks as it it's only just been run in, no grime on it anywhere. If you fancy having a go at one, you could power it with an electric motor of about 600 - 700 size. The engine hasn't been run in ages, but it was stored with oil in it, after I cleared it, I stored it with after run oil. I fitted an O.S remote needle, to keep fingers out the prop. This afternoon, I fueled it up, blasted all the oil out with the starter, connecter the glow start and wheeeeee......
Next up is resining the hull and the engine pod, trimming the piping, then building a radio box
Here it is at the moment
