southampton tug colour
« on: June 15, 2010, 10:25:04 pm »

Hi, can anyone help with which colour to use on the Southampton (wyeforce) tugs superstructure? I want to paint a few bits without having to spray the whole lot if that makes sense, I tried Humbrol 74 and tried to mix my own paint but didnt really know where to start any ideas please.

I'll freely admit that I've never managed it.

Oh go on then! I'll explain....

Mixing the colour wasn't too much problem with a few Tamiya acrylics from the old paint box, matching the finish proved almost impossible. It's in that no man's land between flat and satin. I decided not to bother in the end, but if I did bother, I'd strip the superstructure back to it's components and spray it with the nearest suitable from the Tamiya range, or the indeed the Halford's range, with a matt coat on top.

Thanks Rob, I only wanted to paint a couple of life belt holders I made for the front and paint the blue line seperating the wheelhouse from the rest of the superstructure, maybe I'll just leave it as it is for now.
