The model is now completed (and has been for several weeks, though I only completed the wooden display stand yesterday) so I ought to get on with finishing the build log!

The final stage of the build - other than the rigging and flags - was the two tenders/ship's boats stowed on the boat deck aft of the mast. These are a clinker-built rowing dinghy and an aluminium-hulled outboard motorboat.

The dinghy is first, starting from a 7"/17cm long vacformed plastic hull. I bought this (if I remember correctly) from Model Slipway's stand at a show - it's probably intended as a larger boat in a smaller scale (1/24 or 1/32) but, other than the moulded "planks" being too small and numerous (not particularly noticable once the boat is finished and stowed on deck) it makes a fairly good small dinghy in 1/18.

Styrene strip added to build up the gunwales and keel.

Painted and ready for the "woodwork" to be added.

The thwarts are pine, and the top rail limewood, both painted with teak stain.

Woodwork varnished, oars and eyebolt added, and ready to put on the boat deck. The oars are pre-shaped wooden commercial fittings, reshaped slightly, stained and varnished.

Next is the motorboat. This is a very basic aluminium-hulled "runabout" - actually described as a "skiff" on the Black Knight plans, though it doesn't much resemble a rowing skiff.
I didn't have a suitable hull for this, despite searching for one for some time (Mastman sell a small vacform motorboat hull which is the right shape, but a bit too large) so eventually decided to scratchbuild it out of styrene sheet. After all, how hard can it be to build a simple hard-chine hull out of flat sheet? Harder than I expected, as it turned out - the finished result isn't exactly seaworthy, but looks OK on the boat deck.

The basic hull built up from 1mm styrene sheet.

Complete (other than the seats, which will be made from wood strip) and ready for painting. I don't have a suitably scaled outboard in the spares box, so I'll just have to assume it's stowed away somewhere!

Painted hull. The blue colour is the same (Revell "Lufthansa Blue") as used on the main hull, the interior is Revell Aluminium.

Wooden seats fitted. These are the same teak-stained pine strip used for the dinghy seats.

Finally some photos of the finished article! The model was basically complete a couple of months ago but I recently put another couple of coats of varnish on the cabin woodwork which has improved its appearance a lot. I also gloss varnished the entire hull. I usually avoid gloss paint as much as possible, but in this case ("Black Knight"'s hull paint has an almost mirror finish) it's probably more accurate than a satin finish. The result looks much nicer than the original satin/semi-matt finish IMO and will certainly be much more hard-wearing and waterproof!
Will post some "on the water" photos soon.

Overall views (I tried my best to get a "clutter-free" backdrop, but it's hard with a model this big!)

The pictures were removed during the crash,

You might like to ask Edward if he still has them.
