Strange Dremel Saw Blade?
« on: September 24, 2009, 10:31:37 pm »

Hello All,

I've got to make about 2.5 sq.ft of 2mm gratings (1mm square hole) for the flying deck of 'Arquebuse. Current plan is to follow one of the half-cut methods by cutting slots half way through panels of 3mm sheet and then slitting the panel. I'll make up a small cutting table and I'm considering using the Dremel skeleton saw blade for the slots BUT at £15 quid or so - are they worth it?

Has anyone used them or would it be better to go the 50mm/50 tooth slitting saw blades.

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks

Tony

i've used the carborundum slitting wheels for slot cutting in the past with great success.

Yup, it would probably work but I need to channel about 60-70 metres and I think that the cutting discs might wear out at a rate of knots. Certainly worth a try though. I only wondered whether the 'strange' saw might be good enough to do the whole lot - at a cost.

Permagrit do a tungsten carbide cutting wheel for dremel type things. Should last a while.
You can find them in the expotools catalogue on line.

Thanks TT,

Since the gratings are probably the hardest part of the build and the area that sets the whole thing off, I'm going to experiment with several of the suggestions and see which gives the best effect. I'll advise results in due course.
