Peter

My main problem was talking to the Indian call centre, they just read the script and never listen to what you say

Ah, India call centers, one of my pet peeves;

 "Hello. My name is Steve, Steve Champwallywalla."

that was the problem i had I already have as far as I know the new modem and I have a new Netgear wireless router, the one up from the one they are offering and i would not let one of there chaps touch my PC's so I kept saying I don't want the extras as I already have them and she would say and we will give you a new modem and netgear router etc, it was like an echo all i want is the extra speed, when you go on the new customers section you can have it and cheaper, looks like i may be an ex customer soon.

Well, lads you are filling me full of confidence about Virgin media  %)  as I have just left BT after a long battle with them - all of your above comments regarding Virgin I can relate to BT.   However, a word of warning my friends (and this nearly cost me a fine)  <*<  when one refers to a call centre in India =- they are not called call centres there - they are apparently 'OFFSHORE' departments  8) 8) 8) a right load of twaddle!  Hey dont upset them call girls by saying you can hear elephants going up the back roads as I did, when I got really frustrated - and YES - they do record your conversations  :police: :police: :police: so, you have been warned.

The last thing I would say is, you know you are in trouble when the OFFSHORE DEPT tell you, the only way you are going to increase your line speed is to 'UPROOT YOUR TENT, PUT IT ON YOUR ELEPHANT OR DONKEY AND MOVE CLOSER TO AN EXCHANGE'.

So time will tell with Virgin, but, i DO KNOW they did say I would get 10 mghz line speed and according to my son we are on 8-9 mghz line speed which is quite ample for my son and his X-box - and when they did telephone us it was a nice Geordie voice from Gateshead on the other end of the phone, wanting to know if their service was okay and had the team been round to put the cable down under the lawns properly etc., etc.,.....as I say TIME WILL TELL - happy days!

I have never really had a problem with VM, ntl, download & upload speeds always seem fine..  you could start a thread similar to this for all providers and more likely than not  get very similar responses to this thread.. Odd things happen now and again but I often find and hate admittig to it  our I.T. dept that switching everything off and On USUALLY sorts things out  when set up already..

All of the above stories can be applied to all the ISP firms at different times.
From experience I would rate Sky as one of the more frustrating outfits to deal with. Like Bluebird, my partner wanted to be free of BT (following a long and very nasty set of dealings), Sky provided the means to her. TV (OK) phone (OK) broadband (rubbish). To be fair to them (I'm choking as I admit this), the techie type in the Offshore Department was first class (a young woman). If they had included some data with the router there would have been no problem but their idea is that anything more than a straightforward install is beyond the customer!
All eventually sorted, broadband speed is worse than Fred Flintstone's stone pc could do, just to log into the system is a very slow and time consuming task.
And of course there is the detail of the pricing.... Furious partner read advert in paper that "you can have all this for £18.20" so she contacted them. In short, their adverts are complete fabrications. She is now waiting for her contract to end (to avoid a very heavy get-out fine) and will return to AOL, particularly if they have taken over the phone system in her area.

For information of our southern readers: "How do you  find a Geordie in Mumbai"?
Answer: Listen to the very old song that goes "Wherever you gan you're sure to find a Geordie"
or the footbal chant: "Geordies here, Geordies there, Geordies every ****ing where"

Have a nice day.
(A Geordie now back on home ground after a break in the south west homelands)

when I ring virgin I refuse to talk to there first line, always ask to speak to technical support! I have had loads of problems with them cutting my broadband off and they told me they could ping my modem! unforntunately for them they lied cos I did not actually have it connected at the time, and when asked what the ip address they pinged it was nothing like mine! They cannot ping an individual address, only the local hub! Agter they told me this I only dealt with there techies, who sent a nice young man around who told me I had altered the configuration of the modem!!!! What bull, cos I did not have the passcode to do that, it turned out that the modem was incomplatable with the 10mb upgrade I had, well it was an ORIGINAL modem about 10 years old, and it took the techie guy to tell engineers that and the techie could not see it!!
