Yet another Halfords spray paint question
« on: October 28, 2009, 12:41:31 pm »

Hi
 another Halfords spray paint question.

Does anyone have any experience using Halfords spray cans over dope and tissue?

Also does anyone have any experience using Humbrol enamels for detailing on top of Halfords spray can paints?

Cheers

Humbrol enamels over the top of Halfords primers are no problem.  I always do resin and white metal figures with a squirt of Halfords primer then use Humbrol enamels for the paint job.

As for over dope I've no experience but if you don't get an answer then I would strongly recommend a test.  If you haven't got a sample to hand i.e. spraying over an old doped model, then spray the primer into an empty jam jar for a couple of seconds then brush paint a very small sample of it onto a hidden spot of the model.  leave it for a day or so to be certain that it isn't going to react.

I would think it is O.K. as most of the Halfords cans are water based,  Now with the old cellulose type of cans do not put enamels under them .

Thanks for your replies people.

I think its safe to say Humbrol enamels will go on top of Halfords Paints and cellulose dope.

The Halfords Paint over dope and tissue will be experimental :-)

All the best

I have used Halfords primer over cellulose based sanding sealer and experienced no problems.

That will be right, you can spray water based paint onto cellulose paint but not cellulose onto water based.
