KENT POLICE BOAT
« on: September 25, 2009, 04:43:00 pm »

Hi there, does anyone have any info on this boat? Saw it on tv programme other day. She's called Princess Alexandra III, ex lifeboat(assume prototype Tamar). Photo doesn't do her justice. Thought she'd make an interesting project for someone brave enough to modify a Speedline or Model Slipway kit! I'm thinking about it if can get enough photos etc, thanks, Dave.

Hi,
I believe she is the prototype Tamar, sold on after trials etc.

She is a Tamar and cost the Kent Police force £10,000 before alterations.

It's one thing being able to buy the boat but another being able to run it. The 2X1000 hp cats that will drink 4300 Litres of diesel in 10 hours at full speed.

Ah, a mere formality, could probably run it anywhere but here with cost of our fuel taxes! :-)

It hasn't got the engines the Tamar has, it was completely gutted before the police got it - basically, they only got the shell.

BTW, whatever engines she's got in now exhaust out the side of the hull, rather than the stern - saw her on Saturday up the Medway.

I can't help wondering what the new owners were thinking when they had the liferafts put on top of the wheelhouse. They must severely restrict the forward visibility from the flying bridge. Or am i missing something?

It's a police vehicle, maybe they're used to having blinkered tunnel vision or am I a cynic? Only joking! ok2
