My first wooden boat and I looked at both sealing the hull and durability. Ended up using epoxy resin coating. Easy to apply, you can also add a layer with lightweight glass cloth is you want more strength, and one given a light sand with wet and dry the finish is very smooth. I painted over the top and the finish is just the same as with any glassfibre hull, used Halfords primer/paint and no probs. The top deck I stained and then epoxy coated again, brings a great "glass" finish if sanded with 1200 wet and dry them a quick "T cut"!

Once done I suspect it will stay good to years and as it inpregnats the wood fibre really does add strength.

Second that- Epoxy is the only coat which will give you the safety of a well-sealed boat.

I tend to seal only the INSIDE of a wood-planked hull with two-part resin - but I pour it in to give a really good thick coat. Apart from sealing very well, it also "stiffens things up" for sanding.

The outside I leave to plenty of filler, primer, more filler, more primer, yet more.....

The resin I use is called Z-Poxy.

Can you coat well rubbed down cellulose with E-poxy resin.
