JP Automatic charger of 6V Lead Acid Battery (or is it?)
« on: November 30, 2009, 07:50:15 pm »

I bought the JP Charger at a show some time ago (18months) and not really been using it.
But now I check the voltage on my 6V 4A charged cell that I have charged with it I get 9.37v, 9.45v and 9.8v. respectfully.

Also the voltage across a charging cell is 10.8v

Charger Primary V is 230v 50Hz

Charger Secondary 6v 500mA (acording to the ladel.)

Is this right? or is the charger up the chute along with my batteries???????

I've got two of those and have not reach 7v ever, they get to 6V and then go on trickle charge.

I think you just need a new meter battery.
I wouldn't worry unless a moderatly used duracell battery reads over two volts.

That is the kind of pattern in readings with my £5 back-up volt meter when its battery was done. There was no indication of a low battery in it.It read artificially high because its internal voltage refernce that the meter calibrates against did not have enough juice but the lcd screen and basic meter function was still ok.

When in the trade, it was always good practice to check that the meter was reading correctly, either by checking a known reliable voltage, or, if measuring resistance, by tapping the probes together to ensure a zero reading.  You didn't have to be embarrassed by it too often.  Still liable to be caught out by so-called safety plugs having the shroud spring shove the probe off the end, though.
