Anchor setup
« on: December 03, 2006, 11:20:10 pm »

I am currently using my CAD program to draw a 3D model of a proposed 1260 ton Monitor. I am going to build a 1/48 model when I am done. The original drawings show an unusual anchor arrangement. The cable appears to be attached to the bottom of the anchor .
I have used a similar arrangement on small boat anchors in the real world But the size and arrangement of the deck equipment on the plan is odd.
Any ideas how this arrangement works ?

I think that's the arrangement for hoisting inboard or securing the anchor (catting?), not for mooring. It may have not been connected to its proper cable. Not all anchors on a ship were in use at any one time. Some were stowed.

Thanks Rick,
Yes. I think you are right. The pic shows the only Bow anchor on the boat. The diagram shows no cable going to he shackle on the shank. It just seemed odd that you would hoist the anchor on board using the cable and not a wire rope .
The plan view of that fitting shows a very slender derick with no detail at all. It's only a brief plan of  aproposed boat so as long as the set up I build would work it will look oK
