How many boats?
« on: December 10, 2009, 08:41:19 am »

I have come back to steam boats after a lay off of around five years. Filled with enthusiasm I have refurbished one tug, retired another and really got stuck into a conversion I started in 2005! I have at least two other projects in the stocks waiting for the present project to be completed. Then there are the part builds, the refurbs 'waiting' for me to be inspired and the unstarted kits.

I know as modellers we often bite off more than we can chew, so 'fess up' how many boats can you sail and how many in dry dock.

I'll start: 1 sailing. 3 in dry dock. 3 on the stocks.

One sailing,
One on the stocks five years in the making, two more to go
Two complete and operational steam plants
About a dozen assorted engines and boilers in various states of operation
Three hulls awaiting some of the dozen engines!!

Then there's the electric stuff!!

Ahh yes, I see you have succumbed to the 'more engines' bug.

I am trying hard to fight off the symptoms, but from the state of my ebay watch box and my favourite websites menu, I'm coming down fast.

One I work on one, have two in design, two in dock (don't know if they'll ever be finished) and part own one sailing.

Have a cheddar puffin plant in the part owned, have a Stuart Turner D10 in construction, an antique soft solder/rivetted blowtorch fired marine boiler (unuseable, but it inspires me to look at the coppersmithing that went into it.)

At least you don't have to agonise over what engine boiler combination to fit to the next project.  :}

I didn't dare include the scale sails in my calculations....add another 5 to my tally  :embarrassed:

I definitely don't own enough steam plants.

Are the steam plants in your personal collection or are they ones for sale?
If they are a collection do you have a web site we can see them?
Regards,
Gerald.
PS I refuse to list my models my wife might see the list.

The total amount of steam plants is actually well over 100+ including the range currently offered as well as new designs to come, but roughly only about 15 of these steam plants are in my personal collection. Of the 15, these range from steam plants that were either built by myself or that have been collected over the years. I guess you can say the rest are temporarily in the personal collection until they find new homes.  %)

Would it be too much to ask for some pictures of the steam engines in your personal collection?  ok2
