RTR Severn Lifeboats
« on: December 07, 2009, 06:39:15 pm »

As I look through a well known auction site I find myself becoming more and more angry.

These sold brand new for £50.......now they are selling for stupid prices £70-£125 second hand. As we all know the motors tend to seize, so are people buying half 'failed' boats with nothing going to the people who NEED and DESERVE it >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( <*< <*< <*< <*< <*<

At least at £50 some of the procceeds went to the RNLI :-), who's profitting from the £70 sales. >:-o I bet they are not putting the profit to the RNLI or even a percentage >:-o >>:-( >>:-( >:-o >:-o <*< <*< <*<

I would suggest to anyone. DO NOT ENCOURAGE THIS RUBBISH

More like sellers market.

It's just a shame the RNLI are not getting a piece of the action.

Do you really expect someone who has bought a boat for £50 then sold it for £70 to give the profit to the RNLI ?

Model Slipway give £10 for every Trent sold and £15 for every Tamar sold as a donation to the RNLI.

So you will expect everyone who makes one of these and sells it to give part of the asking price to the RNLI as well ?

Its not going to happen is it ?

The RNLI have already had their share from the INITIAL sale of the boat in their shops so why would they expect to receive any more from subsequent sales in the second-hand market??

If someone wants to give part of their subsequent profit to the RNLI then that's a bonus for the RNLI not an innate right.

Dicky, Mike.

Because I have a disagreement with this. You word your posts as if I am at fault for brining it up. It's OK to sell something on at a 100%+ mark up, especially when it was originally commissioned/sold to raise funds..

Support the cause!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reason I brought this up is for the stupidity of the people buying them. Buyers get a grip unless you know some of the proceeds are going to the RNLI.

I would be happy to pay over the odds for a boat that is guaranteed to be fully functioning, but more so to know part of my cash went to the RNLI.

Big difference between the value of something and what it's worth.

Never considered you at fault Mark, just a little bemused at your passion on this particular subject.

People will always get carried away in auctions. If they have more money than sense then good luck to them.

I am constantly surprised at the prices people will pay for some items, good example is that they buy items from the good FLJ's company on auction sites for more that they can get a new one from the man himself !!

What is the retail price for one of these lifeboats ? I have just looked on ebay but no postage to the Isle Of Mann  :(( Or a good idea of a second hand price ? I guess they come with full r/c ?

Sorry, I am a novice to model boats, but am trying to get into them, not sure of a lifeboat, warship of fishing boat.

Thanks Jim.

Agreed. Maybe they should re-release the boat.  O0

( Jim. The boat comes ready to run but with c--- radio, c--- motors and is very slow... which is a pity because the external
appearance is actually not that bad! I've converted one to real RC and halfway through my 2nd with a more powerful but
 slower motor - Speed400 7.2v )

Hi Mike,

As you can tell I'm very passionate about this. Only a few months ago these were selling for £20-£30 (fair play if nothing goes to RNLI at this price [break even then donate]). But people selling these at twice the new (starting bid) value should be ashamed to do so. Especially if they have no intention of spreading there good fortune with the organisation that has given them the chance of such a lucrative profit.
