Snow's all gone here, and we are awaiting the next delivery.

The only bit left is the remains of next door's snowman.

That lasted a bit longer because they turned it into a snow-woman.

They gave it bigger hips.

I,ll second that, I was born into an imperial world,1950,s but give me the metric system anytime, but here in UK we,ve got to put up with half & half, Litres of fuel, lbs & kgs in the supermarkets a metric £,but imperial in distance i.e. miles, yds, ins,..its nuts,

Getting back to snowing.  If you don't remember the winter of 1947 then you haven't seen snow in the UK.  I was at school in Barnard Castle and I remember the roads being dug out of 6'+ drifts with passing places but not many cars in those days :-)).  But we certainly enjoyed it :-) - happy days.

Very true, Dicky. Softy Southeners would have rolled over and expired 10 days ago.  ;)

Well it snowed here in Airdrie back on the 21st or something, and it's still lying. We've got about 8" in fits and spurts over the week. We had a few days where the temp poked its head above 0C, but it's well below freezing now (and forecast for -6C over the next couple of nights). Thing is, I've heard that the local council (North Lanarkshire) haven't spent any money on grit. They ran out of cash. That might explain why the grit trucks are sometimes seen but not spreading anything. (Presumably so they can say "the trucks are out" without lying about it). Will I get a rebate on the Council Tax? Nah ... don't think so.

Heard a brilliant practical joke the other day

Wait untill the Snowman has almost completely gone & leave a suicide note on the remains {-) {-)

You can't blame the council. They have to spend their money as advised by the Met Office. Up till the end of November the Met Office was forecasting a warm mild winter, and that 2010 will be the warmest year on record.  The council can't buy grit if that's the forecast - they would be accused of wasting your money.

You'll probably find they've bought lots of suncream and bottled water for handing out to collapsing sunbathers.

Ok, I shan't blame the council.

Not even for me skidding, slipping and sliding the 90 miles to Edinburgh and back tonight. (Car temperature gauge said -9C at Harthill!)  :o - and that was at 8pm.
