Good article in yesterdays Sunday Times about the Met Office and its "remit". The gist being that "they" have taken on board all that is wrong about Global Warming and have relinquished honesty ....because it suits the present Directors' own twisted beliefs.
Much better to just look out of a window and look at the sky...

I see the Head of the Met Office is onto a nice little earner:

"John Hirst, the organisation’s chief executive, received between £195,000 and £200,000 in pay and bonuses in 2008/9. The figure is a 25 per cent increase on the £155,000 to £160,000 "pay equivalent" for Mr Hirst in 2007/8...." Telegraph

We must remember that in these times of financial stringency, all workers will be called on to tighten their belts and make sacrifices. In particular service widows, nurses and pensioners will need to take a 10% pay cut. However, this does not apply to politicians, senior civil servants and financial sector executives, where it is important to pay large sums of money so that we can obtain (and retain) the best person for the job....

Our schools never shut once whilst I was there, junior or secondary,
We had a 4 mile walk in shorts, wellington boots, raincoat and balaclava and wet wooly gloves..
The school run didn't exist in those days, very few people had cars and those that did had one and that was used by the dad to go to work in. Dont remember anyone going to school by car.

this is so frustrating...   an extra day off work due to the snow.. (snow ploughs out in Wigan today, first time i have ever seen that)

got loads to do   but it is just toooo   cold in the workshop.

the downside of having a workshop in the garage with an up and over door

By the time I built that as we had been out for a walk around the area my feet were a tad cold in my steel toe capped wellies, so the tranny will have to wait..Particulary as I had to put some bricks under the car tyres as it was slipping down the drive!!!
Recon a marine viper should do the job.  :} just need to square it off to the official measurements and then it will be ready for the next Mayhem Bash   :}

How the people of Germany,Switzerland,Austria,French Alpine regions,etc etc must be laughing at Poor old GB,we grind to a halt,whenever we get more than a couple of inches of snow,..schools are off,shops close public transport becomes non existent,Police forces are even hiring 4 x 4,s,yet the afore mentioned countries just get on with it,in the German alpine regions,1 metre of snow is the norm in winter,but we never see it splattered all over the news 24/7,..I can remember back in the 50,s/60.s when,winter meant snow,and we got on with it,schools never closed,buses still ran,albeit more slowly,
Why is it that we,ve suddenly become a nation of Wusses,is it because we,ve had it too good in the 70,s/80,s/90,s when snow came and stayed for a day or two then disappeared, or is it, because were governed by a bunch of Numpties who think it better to spend millions of ££££ on other countries,than to upgrade the services here at home,..the latest expenditure by those in power,spending millions to help lower "our carbon footprint"is just one of many examples,

Draft exclude around the edges with pipe lagging pushed into the gap- 4 lengths will do- you'll have to put them back after you've opened the door. but if you don't do it that often. Also, the 1.5mm steel is one giant heat exchanger, one that works the wrong way- go to your local builders merchant and get some double foil backed 12mm roof insulation, the type that comes in rolls (not fibreglass, although it might be fibreglass core?), and stick it on with dabs of silicone- brother in law has done it to his concrete floored, up and over doored (that rhymes :D) garage- it's cold, but its always a few degrees above outside, never drops below freezing and never condensates up.

Carpet the floor and insulate the ceiling with a small radiator and you'll be well away.
