I've started building one too.  I've changed a few things, used fiberglass for the main and lower decks, and I did most of the hull interior stuff so I'm a little behind but at least I'm not working through a 6" x 6" opening.  She is quite a hull, I can't wait to get it in the water.  Here's a link to some pics of where I am so far:

http://s852.photobucket.com/albums/ab84/oruna1/our%20lass%20II%20kit%20pics/?action=postuploadshare

Both builds in the forum so far are very nice indeed  :-)) , I hope I can do as nice a job

Something weird here, if I click on the link I get my own Photobucket account. {:-{

Been doing some more work on mine, have made up most of the hatches, tool box, battery boxes, engine vent and done most of the work on the cod end framework. This was bit of a fiddle to get right as have quite a few angles to cut and only 2 lengths of the square plastic tubing. The golden rule applies as always, measure twice(or more!) cut once!! Really enjoying this build, Dave.  ;) ;)

As far as I know its the sheets of parts that will be laser printed now to save on having to hold onto a stock of pre-printed sheets for kits. Not sure if Dave is going to re-do the mould for the hull or not

Hello

The upgraded Maggie M. kit will have CNC-cut parts to replace the die-cut parts. The main plans will be to scale with lots of step-by-step assembly drawings for ease of construction. The hull will be the same.
Lawrie is putting the final touches to the upgrade. We hope to re-release the new kit very soon and an announcement will be made on our website and on this forum.

Hi there all, there we have it from MSW. Can't wait to see the new Maggie M, looking forward to building one. Would be nice to build one on 1/24 scale to go with Our Lass 2 O0. She's coming on well, will be putting more pics on over the next week or so. Struggling to get out into the shed at the moment to do paint spraying due to my bust leg  >:-o so am trying to get as much assembled as possible. She's a great model to build and may build another one as a different type of trawler, saw this one last weekend down in Brixham, Devon, very similar design. There are loads out there to choose from, Dave. :-)) :-)) :-))

Thought must've been built by them but hadn't checked it out yet. Looks shorter, cabin lot smaller than Our Lass 2. You're on the ball for 8.30 on a Saturday morning, thanks for the info, Dave. :-))

Hi I haven't done the Our Lass II but I have done the Maggie M. Have the bottoms of the stanchions got round pins on, if so you would normally drill a hole for the pin and then glue it on.
Can you put a photo of a stanchion on here so we can see the bottom ?

The stanchions are handed: L-15’s are positioned on starboard side and L-16’s on port side – as per plan Sheet 2. Make slots in the deck (we used a Dremel with a 2mm bit), push the stanchions into the slots, bend them forward slightly – refer to main plan Sheet 1 - and add a drop of glue to hold them in place.

The rails may be superglued or soldered to the stanchions. The main point is to remember to clean all parts thoroughly before tinning and soldering. Methylated spirit is as good as anything to de-grease metal while a “red” Scotchbrite pad is invaluable to polish it up. Clean off any excess flux straight away after soldering and fettle all joints with a fine file and brass brush afterwards.

Happy building!

My next project will be Our Lass II.

Currently working on the Deans Liberty Ship,

How much ballast does Our Lass need?

What do you use for ballast?

How/where do you install it?

Do you install it before putting the deck in  place???

Thanks much,

Bill M

I'll be using couple of plastic milk bottles filled with sand to ballast mine when I finally get her finished.  %) Not too sure how much will be needed yet but you should be able to place it ok when she's completed. I've got to crack on with mine, I keep getting sidetracked with other projects but she's getting there. Keep us posted on your progress....Dave  :-)) :-))
