Finally got the trawl boards and liferaft cannisters in place. I'm using 2 x 4 pint plastic milk bottles filled with sand for my ballast. These when correctly positioned either side of the motor along with a 12v 4ah sealed lead acid battery on the centreline in front of the motor put her perfectly on the waterline. I'll get a pic of the internals when I remember. Took a few photos of her sailing with my friend, Kev's Maggie M, they do look nice on the water together, Dave.  :-))

Lol, nice one.

I now know what to weight my barge down with! 25kg of water just isnt enough.

Lovely build by the way Dave  :embarrassed:

Thanks for the compliment Dan. I also used sand as I didn't fancy having over 8 pints of water inside the hull potentially waiting to leak out and mix with the electrics, ouch, Dave.  :-))

I havnt. Its a fair old chunk my barge - http://www.danwalker.co.uk/Towing_Barge_html/towingbargepart3.html

I'm not pushed for space so water in my 5L bottles has been what i use for the moment but this only gets rid of half of the waterline so a lot more is needed. I shall try the sand.

I assume wet sand is better than dry?

Look forward to seeing them in action MV, wouldn't mind trying to make some myself. Call me stupid but what do you make the floats out of and the trawl boards? Dave.  :D :-)) :D

the trawl doors are made out of plasticard with copper wire arms and lead on the bottoms to the same design as the doors we use on our boat, net is same design aswell but longer, the floats are from my brothers fishing tackle box! i will take some closer pics of everything tomorrow

Looks very impressive riding the swell! Takes a brave man to put her in those conditions, don't think I would dare! I might have a go at making some working trawl nets, you've inspired me. With my luck they'll probably end up tangled in the prop though!  O0

go for it, its good fun, bit arkward with 2 nets but 1 is very easy, aslong as there further enough away from the boat they shudnt go in the prop

Hi manx venture
great pics especially with the nets out ,
could you tell me what motor and battery set  you have please .
i have the same model and installed the speed 900 from slipway but its to fast on 12v (and the speed controller gets warm) and not quite enough on 6v ( unless i have faulty 6v batteries)
cheers spud
