Tia Maria harboured in West Bay
« on: February 13, 2007, 08:50:39 am »

Hi all
I am looking for images and details of the Tia Maria fishing boat which is harboured in West bay Dorset.
Can anyone help with details and if there is a kit of the same type of boat that I can adapt.
Looking through my old photos now and will post what I have later but yourl help would be great.
Cheers

Hy Big Mark.
Try a Cygnus hull, the real ones are made in Cornwall up to 38ft, I believe there is a company that makes the model hulls around the Poole area, will try to find address, but I am sure someone on the forum will know where they are.

Hiya Big Mark,
the site Bosun was refering to is  www.modelsbydesign.co.uk/ they do various inshore boat hulls, also go to Metcalf Mouldings site and click on Hulls and Packs then on the left click on Boats and Models and he has a couple of Cygnus kits.

Hiya Big Mark,
I forgot to mention that Mobile Marine Models do 1/12 scale inshore fishing boat hull of a 27ft Aquarius Marine Hull, it's worth getting their catologue it may be the right hull.

Hy Big mark,
Now there is a better pic, I can see she is not a Cygnus, Versatility are good hulls, have a look on e,bay there is a guy who sells cheap hulls of the type you want, you can make it look like the one in the pic. I recently finished one of them as a potter.
I used to go down to the Gundry at Bridpoprt to buy gear when I was fishing for a living. I noticed a nice little 18ft Plymouth Pilot in the background of your pic, had a couple of those over the years, good sea boat but a bit narrow on the 'bottom' end, made a model of an open version we used for drift netting, will have to dig it out and dust it off.

Hy Big Mark
Just had a look on e,bay, the boat I am thinking of is,nt advertised at the moment, but he does sell on there on a regular basis, just put in Model Boats and you should get on the site, the hulls are probably not the best fiinish in the world, but  I have bought from well known makers and they have left a lot to be desired. At least they are all fibreglass and solid enough. I will post a couple of pics of one that I bought tomorrow,. I have been waiting for a hull from a well known supplier for three weeks, and still no sign, at least with this guy once bought it he is very quick in sending it to you. Hope this helps
Cheers

Hy Big Mark,
I have had a look through my files, and I have come up with an e,mail address for the guy who makes the hulls, his name   is             ,Ivan Williams,,
e,mail ,,,, ivanelixias@aol.com.    might be an idea to drop him a line and ask for a photo of the hull, he calls it a bait boat.
The hull is different from the one suggested by Peter HS93,( thankyou Peter), but in saying that, that firm does a couple of tidy tug hulls.
I have hopefully downloaded a couple of pics of the hull but with a telephone box cabin, I hope this is what you are looking for.
