Thank you Clive.  Yes, made from an old Pallet, and a bit of sanding.   %)

14 weeks into the build so far. She will be at Wicksteed, but don't look too close.. :D :D

Hi Richard,

A coal house first.  She placed her order early.  Then I don't really know what to go for.   ;)

Scratch built I assume Ken.

Did you not tell your good lady that a lady like herself should not be humping coal and that you would not object if she paid to have gas put in instead ? %)

Had a go on the flying bridge windows today. This is my third attempt as I seemed to be having trouble with the glazing !!!

The first set ended up with superglue on the plastic windows and ruined it. The second attempt ended up with 'Bloom' on the glass, so was torn out and I went to bed.

As you can see from the pictures, I have made a more secure fixing for the frames and will be sliding the 'glass' down slots. It's all been sprayed three times so I hope this is the end of two days work.  ok2

Regarding my upgrade of the battery system, I have ripped out the old battery compartment and build a bigger, wider version. I plan to run 4 off, Six Volt types at 7 amp/hour each, in series and parallel to give me 12 volts at 14 amp/hours.  I calculate this should provide top speed running for half an hour.   8)  There is also the extra six volt battery for the bow thruster and lights.

I have fitted a 15 watt amplifier in readiness for some sound.  Probably the engines or perhaps some disco music with the odd police siren noise.    {-)

Two pictures got left behind when Dicky's message came in.  But Sir, she likes to carry the coal in and who am I to spoil her exercise routine.  8)

Yes it will be scratch built. I'd post pictures, but it's not boat related.   %)

ps ..........   you can just see the start of the fitting of the 1600 bolt heads.

Ken, maybe you already are aware of this, but I have found aeromodeller's canopy glue to be very useful for fixing glazing. It doesn't fog or bloom like super glue, and dries clear. I believe it's a type of PVA.

Thank you for that, Peter. I shall use it along the base line, as I have grooves ready for the glass  (DVD covers cut to shape).

Today I spent 11 hours at the bench. The glazing has been cut and slid into the runners with not a mark on them... Hooray.

I have wired up the sound system, consisting of an 18 Watt amplifier and matching speaker, which is built into the cabin floor. As it points upwards into the cabin, there is a ready built resonance chamber in the hull. The radio sounds rather good through it at the moment.

I have fitted the two spotlights to the flying bridge and these will be wired to the lighting system soon.

The battery boxes were fitted and new wiring laid for the 5 batteries.  It was then powered up and voltages and current were taken. I now calculate she will run for 7 hours without stopping.   (probably be out sight by then   :} )

As most of the "stuff" is fitted now, I thought I'd get the bathroom scales and measure the total weight.   She now weighs 61 pounds fully loaded  ( 30 killos?)   O0  :o  %)

 Sea trials soon !!!!

Solder some leads to the speaker terminals and make sure you have a 12 volt battery with 3A connecting leads somewhere in there.

It's all programmed and I've even cut the holes in the case for the wires. Hope your amp is OK for it - requirements are input 1v peak; 700mV RMS; >10K impedance.

Great news.  Today I made a launching trolley.

I have converted my old sack truck into a wider base which will hold the stand and boat. The theory is to push it down the slipway until the boat floats off.

What could possibly go wrong !!   :}

Not at the moment Dan, as the paint is still wet.   ok2

Had a bit of fun with the wiring.  I started to connect the radar and pulled the wire up through the tubes from below and it snapped inside. I had to remove the whole assembly to re-thread a new wire. Still, it's done now and I have a revolving radar unit. Lovely little motor courtesy of Marks model bits.

I've also put in the port & starboard lights.   (it is Red on the left, isn't it?)

Thanks guys.

It's just that when things go wrong, they do it in a big way. :-) so I thought I'd better check.

Today I wired up the lighting. There are five cabin lights  with two spotlights on top. Also wired in are the side lights. The radar is wired to it's own 1,5 battery and only takes 0.02 amps so a little battery will suffice.

I then got on with bolt heads. I have cut out two thousand from a 3mm Hex plastic bar (several of them actually!) and started sticking them on backing tape, ready for spraying grey.

Might get a few stuck on for the annual outing on Saturday.  We haven't had any sea trials yet and there is no time left, so it will have to be at Wicksteed. I hope she stays afloat long enough,  8)
