as long as u can get two 540's side by side in the hull that i think will be the answer i will measure it up as she is quite narrow lol

You could always try staggering the motors.

well she should be here in a day or two so measuring can begin
the Cleaver props in the pic are perfect for earthrace i will be getting some of those also looking to put the dual rudders in the sponsons as per the real thing staggering the motors i think wont be a problem but only if i really have to
the empty space will mostly be filled with foam should a boat decide to try and slash me bow off
still not sure brushed or not?
brushed gives great slow running but brushless gives insane speed maybe 1500kv is ok

If you want slow, a 700 Kv,  ;)  5000 RPM at 7.2 volts, on a 40 MM prop will give you all of 3.5 KpH, well maybe a little more with the slippery Earthrace hull :-))

I can watch the bell spinning and almost count the revs by eye.
first motor in this thread.

i spose its because i am used to brushed 540 size motors but any motors that will suit the 920mm hull at 6.5kg would be fine so keep ya ideas coming

You can make your own easily if you have a colour or laser printer by buying waterslide transfer paper here http://www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk/productlist.asp?catid=14&RootCatID=14

If using colour ink, you'd need to seal the transfer on the boat to stop it coming off.

AFAIA there is different paper for ink jet and laser pinters.

Just been doing some, black printing on clear backing, works well.

Not tried the white backing paper yet

Print it out, spray the paper, let it dry and then dunk and slide it on, not sprayed it again yet.

Just been trying to put some colour (red and Yellow) printed decals onto a dark blue background and the decal is all but  invisible <:(

Any any tips on decals on to a dark colour?

The ones I've done before have been black onto a white background and been fine.

Try your local sign shop - they usually have small scrap ends that they can create your text/design onto - quite often for a donation to their tea fund. I've had a few here done using a vinyl type material.

jason

go to the sign shop around the corner from you.. Get some  of that self adhesive venial . Mark at the club has a rob cutter that will cut them out perfect.
All you need to do is to get a drawing of the transfers you want. I call you later

Update on the Earthrace conversion
« Reply #41 on: April 10, 2010, 11:51:38 pm »

Well its going well all electrics are out the intake/exhaust horns heavily modified (flatter angle and more swept) and now wearing the satin black
more detail mods to follow radar and IRC platform nav lights and hand rails
it will be a twin Graupner direct drive setup with two 35/40mm 4 blade props and will try tank steering if this is no good then twin rudders in the sponsons as the real thing had these so plenty to do but all quite do-able
 :-))

All going well no electrics but graupner direct drives will be going in with 2 40mm props loads to do detail mods tho the horns are heavily modified as now they sit flatter and more swept an issue with this model but looking ok now!

Here it is now with twin graupner 602 multispeeds with 600 motors tank steers really well and may add sponson rudders for trimming

Ive got the bigger brother of this and am about to start carrying out some mods to improve it.

Ive allready had to repair the bow after a little accident and that has motivated me to change a few things, the exhaust presently comes out on the left hand side but Im pretty sure that was letting water in through the turns so im blanking the exit off and going to reroute the exhuast out of the left side breather fin. Im also going to do similar and run a breather tube from the right side fin down to the carb. After that the idea is to fibreglass where the sponsons meet the main hull to add strength, at the moment their are 8 bolts securing each sponson to the main hull but id rather increse the strength in that area considerably. Then trim tabs going to be added as mine seams to have a tendency to lean to the right and on righ turns the right sponson burries into the water. With a little head scratching I think I can get the trim tabs running of a third channel so that its trimable whilst running. Oh yeah and going to add some boyancy as well , theirs quite a bit of space in front and above the fuel tank so hopefully get some packaging air packets on those spaces. Think thats my plans in a nut shell. Would like mine to have the ability to go through waves as the real one did which is my thinking behind most of my planned work. Then a quick respray in some thing appropriate.
