Took me ages to suss and even now not sure what I did  ;D I know that the various sites with animated avatars don't allow you to use their web address as the link when you set the profile up. I ended up downloading something called Flock Photobucket (same sort of thing as firefox) which allows you to import avatars then use that as a base web address for the forum profile. When you do it check that there is not a doubled up http:// thingy as there is one already in the blank and another one gets plonked on with the exported avatar.
I expect you are not much the wiser I know I'm not and I wrote it  :D :D Suffice it to say it took me a lot of messing about with plenty of dirty looks from SWSBO  ;)
Best of luck

easy one but then im no computer expert,

i use photobucket to host my avatars simply to do on the forum here aswell
just take away [IMG] before the text and after, then you should just be left with the http bit and where the animated thing is hosted with .gif at the end.

hope this helps  ;D

I think the best way is to find the animation or clip you like, download it to your PC,
Martin.

Or create you own!!!

Martin.

That is the first way I tried and ended up with the problem Boatmadman and Kenny had ie the avatar was animated until you added to the profile when it froze. The photobucket method seems favourite but if you are a bit of a dimwit like wot I am it takes a bit of time checking if it is moving then going back and trying another tack. Talking of which I think I might bring my gyrating matelot back in the New Year for a change  ::) ::) it seemed to have caused a bit of a stir last time  ;D ;D

On profile enter URL of avatar where it says "I have my own pic" making sure you only have one http//. Click on change profile button. Job done!!
Works for me .

In the profile settings it's possible to upload an animated GIF directly from your harddrive. I've tried doing this, but the GIF doesn't animate. I suppose I could do as DickyD says (which obviously works, incidentally), but I prefer Admin's suggestion of uploading from my own PC.

Talking of which...

While I'm uploading and generally trying to find out why the GIF doesn't animate, I received this message. Probably of more importance to Martin...

The avatar should be 86 c 65 Pixels, try resizing without marinating the same aspect.

It seems that animated Avatars have to be live animations i.e. already somewhere on the internet then you can point to it using "I have my own pic:" under your Profile settings.

If you can't get your animation to work, send it to me and I'll upload it for you.... no guarantees how long it will take though.......  ::)
