I'm really sorry about this....but I'm totally lost with the alliteration. When and where and how did Whitley Bay get dragged into this rather obscure thread?
If you want an exposition on the "pubs" around here then you will have to look elsewhere.
If you want to know about Model Boating in this area then the target message should be aimed at those who are currently in charge of the local club.
Aside from that, Whitley Bay is actually a rather nice place to live. OK, I know the sea-front is a bit "run-down" (and where isn't these days), but we do have more to offer than an overworked A & E ward at the local hospital.
Just because "we" are outside the mainstream "hotbeds" of model boating dosn't mean that we are yokels. In fact, one or two of us have actaually got some GCSEs. So all is not lost.

Quite how and why you should take offence at such an innocent throw-away line is a bit beyond me (and I have a lot of experience of folk being offensive). I'm sure it wasn't a "Geordist" comment - if there is such a thing.
My Dad told me that the best way to avoid having your nose punched was not to pick fights. Anyway, Whitley Bay is  rather singular - I spent a week there one afternoon................. 8)

I most certainly did not take any offence! I thought it was a joke....but I just did'nt get it. Go ahead, poke as much fun as you like and hopefully some banter will come of it. You only have to read my recent banter with Barry M to realise I can be quite self-deprecating about both my local habitat and person. BY...from cold, windswept and sort of snowy Whitley Bay.

Don't worry about it. Apart from the that it's Whitley Bay and not Whitely Bay! Oddly enough Whitley Bay used to be just plain "Whitley", but when the trains arrived on the scene people got "confused" between "Whitley" and "Whitby" (no change there then), so "they" added "Bay" to Whitley....even though there is no Bay as such. Although with erosion going on the way it is, there may well be one "shortly". Cheers. Bryan.

Bill - I am told that the canal at Wigan Pier DOES contain water - it just LOOKS like brown grass with partly buried shopping trolleys  {-) {-)

Ned and Bryan, at least you've both got REAL sea, I've got to go VIRTUAL sailing  %)  Mind you, I remember it did get really cold with those winds from Scandinavia!

I recall the winter of 1947 quite well....but the 1963 version (when the Tyne froze over) I'm afraid I missed it being based in Rio de Janeiro at the time, and never gave it even a passing thought. Bryan.

PMK and all others I wouldnt be too worried about upsetting Bryan - poor soul doesnt know where he lives never mind where he is - he refers to Whitley Bay as being in Northumberland - and believe me Whitley Bay has been in Tyne and Wear for years....i.e. North Tyneside just owa the River from South Tyneside......

I do hope he didnt have the same problem navigating those ships....

and hey FLJ what I want to know is how did you get past the cannibals in Whitley Bay man......

tara for noo

FLJ I worked over there in North Tyneside for 15 years and when I went over there I had to wear a badge which said 'UNSUITABLE FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION' had to wear that especially near Tynemouth Lake and in Whitley Bay Model shop  %% %% %%

In fact, the trick is, to take a lump of horsemeat and hoy it on the ground behind so the cannibals will dive at that - and hey you should see them diving out of the bushes for it.....

TUt tut...only been North Tyneside since 1974 (a flea bit in time). But, as I come from the same neck of the woods as Bluetit I would'nt presume to cast disparaging remarks.
