BATTLE OF BRITAIN MEMORIAL FLIGHT
« on: February 01, 2010, 08:30:19 am »

It has been suggested that the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) which celebrates the sacrifice of those who flew during the 2nd World War, will be cut in the next round of defence cuts. This will be a travesty if it goes ahead. The BBMF costs a mere £3m a year, less than 0.1% of the defence budget. It is a great delight for all who see their displays, and the memory of 'The Few' will be lost. Please vote to ensure that the BBMF is not closed.

Taken from the BBMF website............................
"You may have seen the article in the Daily Mail today speculating about the future of the BBMF. Air Command have advised us that the potential demise of the BBMF as a cost saving measure is untrue;

There is no plan to cut any funding from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. We routinely review all spending to balance our resources and focus on the highest priority - operations in Afghanistan. A wide range of options are always considered in each annual planning round but not all of these are taken."

Yep, buy the Daily Sport instead..... {-) %% ;D

I hope it isn't true, but I signed anyway. Hopefully it will show the Government how important it is to the British public and then they may increase the buget to help get more planes of the ground...

As a Kiwi who lost a couple of relatives in WWII, I would find it offensive also, one uncle died in Europe, another in Asia. BBMF remembers not just the Britons who died flying during the war as the Commonwealth had Kiwis and Aussies flying too.
One of my uncles considered himself unlucky, but the family thought otherwise. He was training on Hurricanes and had completed his training in New Zealand and was posted to England. His flight was actually on the runway when they were told to stand down as the war was over.

I know I would never have got to meet him if he had been in combat before that.

There is not a great number of these guys left and the countries they are from definitely need to remember the sacrifices made by them, but more so the ones that gave it all.

In My Opinion
I Bet there was an element of truth , leaked by the Mod to gauge the public reaction, and then its easy for them to say We never said that.. Allegedly.
