SKY RECEPTION IN EUROPE
« on: February 04, 2010, 05:32:57 pm »

I live in France. My wife has suddenly become keen on trying to receive Sky Sport (does not interest me but programmes like "Discovery" would).

Anyone know how we can go about it? We have a Digi Box.

Roger,

It is just like down here in Spain. You need a larger dish than the UK and a Sky Digibox, which are more expensive that in Uk due to the lack of subsidy.

If you already have Sky, then either give them a ring, having your viewing card number ready or go on line and register with Sky. You can then simply order the package you want and they amend the DD from your bank.

Hope that covers it all..

Sounds like a plan, Sky are just terrible, the broadband service is rubbish, the phone is 'free' (minus the hefty line rental of course) and there's naff all on tv to watch. all this from upwards of £35 a month...

My mate lives In Germany, his mother took out a subscription for sky without the equipment that way it does not have to be plugged in, and he bought the equipment she sends the cards out

there is also free sat with top up, they have been selling free sat receivers for under £100 in the UK (Aldie) with dish and LNB you can buy a larger dish and use the TOP UP to get the programs you want.

Oooh - I disagree. My TV quality is great, my broadband - which failed last month due to an old router - has been fixed (by them sending me 3 new ones. There's two in the cupboard, if anyone wants one?) As to the phone, the line rental is BT's affair. 38 quid a quarter or something. Boo!

That said, there is naff all to watch...

Unless things have changed, don't tell Sky you are in France or they will pull the plug on you. You need an address in England to register the card to. In most parts of France there are English people who will supply the equipment and install it for you.

They're charging us all that money, yet these are my Speedtest.net and Pingtest.net results. I'm supposed to be on the 20meg unlimited service. I know it's down a crappy BT line, but still, the exchange is only in town. As I have a very low ping, no packet loss and little jitter, I should be getting the full 20mb service, yet it never tops 3.6mb.

Seeing as I use the internet a lot, do use it for online games etc I need something much better than Sky can provide.

Virgin is rolling out (true) speeds of 100mb starting from September, and from 2012 onwards are rolling out 150mb. For the same price as their current 50mb service.

The star rating for Sky broadband tells all really. Not many score that low...

Fone up and ask them to reset your profile but are you sure your on top package as Sky connect customers get there speeds throttled by BT

I complained to Sky last week about my broadband service after 5 pm till 11.59pm which was no better than dial up and they gave me a £5 discount on Sky connect and my line rental is now £5 a month so cant complain and my speed is usually up at 6,45 meg the daughter must be downloading musi again lol

I think we are digressing here guys
Roger's wife wants Sky Sports
The speed or lack of it on broadband
is not the issue
Best way  is to contact an ex-pat
website in France and someone
will have the answer
