Until the 19th Century, a Saxe-Coburg-Battenberg-Mountbatten-Windsor or the equivalent might well find himself in the firing line and not that much earlier Kings were expected to put themselves about on the battlefield....

Bosworth Field (1485) saw the last charge of mounted knights in Britain and Richard III was the last English King to die there in battle.

George II was the last British King to lead his army in person at Dettingen in 1743

Then it all changed and suddenly their lives were more important than any other mother's son (or daughter). If they are not going to serve where the guns are real and loaded why are they being trained at the taxpayers expense and what right do they have to wear uniform? (Don't tell me they are 'figureheads'; figureheads are only found in museums.)

As mentioned earlier, there are two types of medals - campaign medals and valour medals.

To qualify for a campaign medal you have to have been in theatre for 28 days. So if a solidier goes out of a period less than 28 days they will not get a campaign medal, even if they've been under gunfire, injured, etc.

The valour medals, no need for explanation, you have to be nominated for one.

there is also the commemoration medals
the last being the Queens Golden Jubilee medal
the members of the forces had to serve 5years to be able to qualify
BUT Harry and William did even though they were still at school

That is totally unacceptable >>:-( >>:-(
