Bob, I've had an interest in Pompey ever since one of our local lads, Craig Foster, whom I know and watched playing junior football here, had a short stint with the club under Terry Venables. He is now the football "analyst" with one of the national TV networks, but was back home last weekend playing in an annual charity match.

It is very sad to see a proud club in such dire straits.

Peter.

Peter,
Terry Venables bought the club for £1 and cost £250.000 to buy him out.
Some profit margin!!

Daily Echo 22 April 2010

THE state of Portsmouth FC's perilous finances have been laid bare for all to see.

Administrators UHY Hacker Young have published a 70 page document, detailing what the club owes.

The headline figure is a total debt of £119m, as reported yesterday by the Daily Echo.

The club owes £17.3m in transfer fees, £9.7m to players' agents and scouts, £17.1m in unpaid tax and national insurance contributions and £38.2m in unsecured loans.

They also owe £35,000 to Saints and just under £42,000 to King Edward VI School in Southampton.

The document also reveals Fratton Park is officially valued at £7.7m - although the administrators consider it to be worth £15m while the club's playing squad is valued at a total of £30m.

All the non-playing staff at the club have agreed to defer wages in an attempt to help the club operate on a day-to-day basis, although no mention has been made of the players themselves.

The club also owes £3m to current and ex-players for so-called image rights.

The administrators predict that without any player sales or deferring of player wages, there will be a shortfall of £7m between the club entering administration and the end of the season.

Any buyers, could do a deal, do you think ?

As  Brighton & Hove Albion supporter I am happy,  bit of luck at last for us doing OK  new stand being built   at last a new home

back in 83 we were in the same position as Pompey,  going down and at the cup final.    not in admin thought .

just a word of advice for the Pompey team if you have a player named SMITH leave him at home .

I will be cheering for you guys .  looking forward to hearing the Pompey chimes.   best of luck  1 - nil will be fine

It makes me feel so good that a scummer is taking so much interest in the Better Football Club - Portsmouth.
I haven't seen any thread about Southampton FC, so all I can assume is that there is nothing to write about so need to check out a better club.
Many thanks DickyD, so glad you are publicising Pompey.
As the old saying goes there "is no such thing as bad publicity"
Shame you can't be expected to make the playoffs it would have been good to beat you 4 - 1 AGAIN.
Yes it is getting a habit.

Once again thanks for keeping Pompey at the top of the new threads.

Thought you might like to pay us the money you owe, oh yes, and King Edwards School and the other schools and the boy scouts and the florist over the road.
Could go on with the list of the small concerns that you owe money to but life is to short. >>:-(

Glad you live in Southampton and not me.
I had to visit Shirley today.
A whole 4 miles from the motorway, it took almost an hour to reach it.
That was at 3-00pm not even rush hour.
You really do need to get to grips with this horseless carriage, you know the single most popular form of transport this century.

What about Leyton Orient now there is a club with little or no prospects along with Southend (my dads team) do they have a ground at the moment? Always liked Southampton especially one of the best Footballers in the world Matthew Le Tissier what a talent and he never reached his full potential.

Just having my say :-))
