She was a Ramsgate Class twin engined lifeboat, ON705 . Only three of this class were ever built

She was 48ft 6in x 13ft x 9ft draught built in 1928 by J.S.White in Cowes I.O.W and  named  E.M.E.D.

Based at Walton & Frinton from 4/7/28  until 2/11/53 she launched 177 times and saved 217 persons.

She was then in the reserve fleet from 1953 to 1955 and launched a further 8 times saving 26 persons.

She was sold to Chile in January 1956 and renamed Capitan Christianson.

Mike,

Thanks for that. As she has just been retired from active service would that put her in the running for some kind of record for continuous service?

Cheers,

She was retired as a lifeboat in Chile in 1998 so 70 years as a lifeboat is probably a record.  8)
