Any room for another Flower?
« on: February 22, 2010, 09:01:05 pm »

I started on this last week,it will be static and i'm using most of the GLS stuff.

I hate brass >:-o
But it'll look smart when its finished.

Sharp bit at the front is done bar a touch up of paint and the rope reels.

A photo of the parts i've received from GLS to date.

There is always room for another Flower mate! Especially one that is going to use all the GLS goodies! Which Flower are you building? I have most of the Sirmar resin fitting for my next corvette and are looking forward to seeing you build with the GLS bits added. I never realised that the deck sets etc are all brass. It's going to be a great looking model...

Excellent! The HMS Compass Rose is a true classic! I'm a bit jealous of the 4" gun. It's a model in its own right and looks the business once it is finished. Please feel free to add as many pictures of your build as you can be bothered. I'm a shocker for posting random pictures of my build..

I'm also looking forward to seeing a Compass Rose completed.

I'm also very interested to see more of this build. This is the first time I've seen a Flower built using the GLS sets - I've heard a lot about them, but never seen them! The brass sets look seriously impressive and comprehensively detailed - if a bit intimidating, especially the superstructure which I assume you have to fold up from flat pieces.
Am I right in thinking that the complete GLS set replaces everything in the plastic kit other than the hull and cowl vents?

Don't be shy???
Its taken me almost every night this week to finish the 4" gun and hedgehog  ;D
Most of the original kit will be kept for spares,i've just started the bridge set and the original wheelhouse is used.

I can't use the flash to get close up so i'll try for some for photos on Sunder afternoon.

Looking really good mate! You can really see all the extra details from the GLS set on almost every single bit! The 4" gun and bandstand looks excellent, it's almost a kit on it's own with over 200 parts.

How are you finding building the GLS sets? I don't have much experience with etched brass but you seem to be getting fantastic looking results from them. I have all of the Sirmar fittings for my next one and I must say that for a working model (eg R/C) they are pretty darn good and a massive improvement over the kit ones. Extra details but still strong enough to be handled.

I'm really enjoying this build mate and I am VERY tempted to build a static kit now using all of these bits...

Keep up the good work mate, I'll be watching you!! {-)

Sirmar Model boat fittings are the way forward. He's also a member here as Darlek1. I have all of his fittings in 1/72 scale for my Flower Corvette and they are superb on a working model.. :-))
