Model to my plans

Hello any model makers who have built models to my plans.
I have been contributing model ship and boat plans to Model Shipwright, Model Boats and Marine Modelling magazines for over 30 years now, must have done well over 120 by now.
I am always keen to have any feedback and even better any photos of the models.

Welcome. I've admired your work but haven't yet built one of your designs - though I've got your  Ravenna, free plan for a twin screw launch from MMI put by just in case.

These two, Aberdeen Pilot Boat and Nancy Raymond, were built by the same member of the Peterborough Area Model Boat Club. (He doesn't 'do' the internet). Fine examples I think.

I've just started building Sydney Express from your plans. I've not got very far along yet as I'm building it at 100th scale instead of 150th. You can see where I'm at on my website.

(a) No, I have never done a Riva plan
(b) will need to dig out my list!
(c) Got photos of Nancy Raymond and Abn. Pilot Boat , excellent models
(d) coincidentally, (or perhaps not!) Graupner have just brought out a kit similar to my plan!
(d) a model maker sent me photos of his outstanding Ravenna model

Hi Jim,
I'm in the process of building the Pacific Buccaneer to a scale of about 1:48 and Scottie might be interested that I have just completed a 1:96 scale Sydney Express measuring 8 Feet. If you have a look at the 'Northen Model Show - Doncaster 2006' in the Shows section of modelboatmayhem about 1/3 the way down you can see two photos of the Sydney Express.

Hi there Jim

I built the Moray Firth about 2 year ago - I enjoyed building from your plans - the only part of your plans which I found difficult to follow was on the bridge detail.  However, I overcame this and produced a nice model which I enjoy sailing when I can get my lazy bones down to the lake.  (If I can dig out a photographs I will put one or two picture of the model).

I would appreciate a list of your plans, because I havent come across a catalogue of your plans as yet - and, I am busy scouting around for a new build.

From your plans in Model Shipwright I have built ST "Bayflower" @1:36 and SS"Hunan" @1:48. Both these models were stolen just after the 2000 Harrowgate show. I have made a second model of "Bayflower" (I keep my hull moulds) and have just completed SS "BANDRA" @ 1:54. I know it is an odd scale but the models have to fit into my trailer.
I have also built Cableship "Norseman" (of 1923), Cableship "Recorder" (of 1954), RFA "Gold Ranger" (built 1941), RRS "Discovery" (built 1912) all at 1:48. And also a model of "Bluebird of Chelsea" @ 1:12. (Not a model of the sand-dancer of the same name.)
This one came in 2nd at Harrowgate to the brass landing craft.
I Will get photos on the Forum as soon as I find out how to do it!

Bryan - I'm building a 1:24 Bluebird of Chelsea - would like to see photos of yours to see where I go next.

Hello Jim, I built a puffer to your plan of SKYLIGHT. Came out not too bad. Wouldn't say I got the hulll lines exactly right and I skipped a few of the details but it has come up looking like the real thing especially with the sun behind.
I have subscribed to Model shipwright since the beginning and I think I remember right that once that you asked for suggestions for future design ideas. When I first went to sea I sailed with Union Steam Ship co of NZ on a few of the old "Slow greens" that had been built at Alex Stephens and Robbs. Not the most eligant of ships but at one time all round the NZ coast. How about one of them ..... KAITOKE,  WAIMATE, or even the WAITAKI built as the WHAKATANE for NZSC in the late 50's.
I will try and attach a pic of the puffer.

After some tidying and sorting of the loft I have found 3 of your plans that were included in magazines, Sandpiper, Lochiel and Water Witch. Of the three I think the last one is the one that will be added to my "I will build it one day!" list.

With the demise of the Model Boats magazine website where can I purchase your plans from?

I'm glad that I discovered this thread. I made some models to your plans published in the "Model Shipwright" magazine. They are made of grey card, the scale is 1:250 (the common card model scale here in Germany). The first model I want to present here is the Armament Carrier "Mortar".
