Antenna Length
« on: February 28, 2010, 08:36:16 pm »

Hi
Bought a Futaba 4Yf with a R136F receiver for my boat

I assume the antenna wire on receiver is a preset length to optimise reception well My old set up had the antenna wiring running around the boat then going to a whip type aerial
Now my question is do i cut the length of the whip off the wire thus keeping optimum length ot just connect it straight to it thus lengthing the antenna wire by about 12 inches

Keep the overall length the same.
If this includes a whip aeriel cut thid length off the wire.

You are going to wish you'd never asked.

Unless you want extreme range ie out of sight, you can get away with running the Rx antenna around the inside of the hull.

I'll leave the others to argue whether you need to alter the length when using a whip aerial, Robbe say you should cut of the same length off your Rx antenna as the length of the whip aerial

Four.
The RX maker decided the best length for the aerial.  If adding a new bit, remove that length from the wire to keep the same overall length.
