« on: December 20, 2006, 09:32:48 pm »

:) :) :) :)First of A Merry Christmas to one and all and happy Modelling 2007.
Next year I want to try my hand at building Radio Controlled model. I have until noew only built static models. Can any of my fellow modellers recommend a model that would help to launch(sorry for the pun) into the Radio controlled world. :) :) :)

What sort of models are you interested in? Modern/WW2 warships/military, working boats, lifeboats, yachts, etc ?

Hi there

Do you want to scratch build or buy a kit and what sort of budget are you looking at?

;) ;) ;)Many thanks to you all for repying to my query. I am used to building kits, mainly plank on frame however I scratch built a Thames Barge to the Will Everard plans and I must admit I got more satisfaction from that build than I have ever got from Kits.
Besides Radio Controlled I have yet to try and build using ready made hulls so perhaps now is the time to combine both, what do you think.
Budget - For kits I am used to paying around the £200. mark but as a starter I suppose a lower budget would be the order of the day. Thanks again CERES.

Even if you're not a member of a club, why not nip along to one at their sailing day and have a look at their models and radio installations. Modern R/C gear is very user-friendly. When I were a lad you needed a degree in electronics to sort the stuff out!

Hi,

My first kit was a Billings tug, bankert. It went ok. has an ABS hull and wood superstructure. Kit is under £100 I think. Might be worth looking at?
