Help identifying a tug
« on: March 03, 2010, 08:32:10 pm »

Hi everyone,
Need a bit of help identifying my latest purchase (real tug & model)

(click the photo to enlarge)

As best as I can tell it's 1:32
Length 42" / 106.7cm
Height 27" / 68.6cm (to tip of mast)
Width 12" / 30.5cm

Ignore the name (that was me, originally Ruth).

Any help would be great.

Thanks Charles

It's got the look of a Cervia type hull to me..................

I'm pretty sure it's a freelance design (seems to have taken inspiration from allsorts).

I keep meaning to go and have a look at the Cervia, it's under an hour drive away, shame I can never find the time!

Thanks Charles

The hull, bridge & forward superstructure look very Empire class to me, but the aft superstructure look slightly different. I know many shipyards built empire class tugs & all differed. Of course it may not be a specific model of anything, just drawing influence from several types.

Still a great looking tug though, no matter what it turns out to be

Cheers Glenn

Hi I think this may help identfying your model ,it is very similar to one of a series of tugs originally built for STEEL & BENNIE of Greenock in the late 50s and early 60s,
There was
Brigadeer,Campaigner,Wrestler. the difference really only being the funnel shape but that could be modellers licence. also a picture of one that was at our lake yesterday belonging to one of our club members

Hope this helps   George.

Re last entry

Campaigner and Wrestler were sister ships. Brigadier was completely different as she was an inside boat. Her near sisters were Strongbow and Vanguard. Hope this helps. The model is similar to the Campaigner but the funnel is wrong.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the Brigadier pic.  I've had the plans drawn up at 1.24 and been sitting on them for a long time.  This is the first pic of this tug I've seen other than a drawing........ :-)) :-))

Thanks Guys, It was definitely based around them, maybe the builder liked the design (or had history with one of them) but as it has a steam plant fitted wanted a period style.

Hi Kiteman

I have just finished a 1/32 model of the Vanguard and have more pics if you need them. The only difference with the Vanguard was she had a passenger cert for 144 passengers, a passenger lounge forard and her rails had 4 bars instead of three. I believe the Brigadier much altered maybe still in service in Italy.PM me if you want more pics.

Hi King, Have you researched the company logo on the funnel, only it does look familiar to me.

Yes I know what you mean, I have looked through quite a few myself. It could be a firm not known for towing like a dredger firm for instance, but for all that it looks a super model and I would give it house room anyday.
