Possible first Sub

Hi all you sub mariners.
Please move this thread if not suited here.
I currently build 1/96 warships but have lately become interested in subs.
As a novis in this field would this sub
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=275723284
be a good one for a beginner.
my modeling skills are average to above average, but never sailed a sub before. Any help appreciated. Would like to build a WWII 1/96 sub to sail next to my Missouri and Fletcher if there is a kit out there.
Many thanks for all input in advance.
Adrian,.

I wouldn't recommend that kit to be honest- there are better ones out there. Unfortunately there aren't many kits available of WWII submarines on the market at 1/96th. This is owing to the fact that most WWI subs are rather small at that scale.
Lots of Nuke boats at that scale though.

With your modeling experience I suspect you will be able to tackle any submarine kit out here.
Unfortuate that is the only 1/96 scale WII kit I know of

The scale shipyard do a 1/96th Gato class, if that is of interest?
It's a hull only, but you can purchase wtc's which will enable a conversion to RC without too much pain.

scale shipyard carries two ww II us fleetboats in 1/96, the Gato class and the Balao class. granted, the only difference in their kits appear to be the conning tower, but they are pretty much it for WWII 1/96

and for the guts of the thing, i would recommend one of these:
call/email/post on their forum and see what they recommend for the scale shipyards fleetboats:
