PS Glen Sannox - build thread
« on: March 16, 2010, 10:35:25 am »

I normally build warships and post on the ModelwarshipUK site.  My latest build is a Clyde paddle steamer and as I have had several requests to see the build I am going to post the build thread here.  If anyone has any questions please post them and I will try to answer.

A few more shots showing the construction of the floats/seats.  A bit fiddly but the end result looks the part.

It works out about 45p a stantion including the brass rod, but it is worth it.

Cowl casting under way.  The master is a lash up of tube and a plastic cowl top that was close to the required shape.  A bit of green stuff and a lot of filing  and a reasonable result was achieved.

the moulding compound is the two part material available in most art/craft stores these days.  I mould it as a big solid lump round the master with a flat end so it sits up the correct way.  I then cut it with a sharp scalpel down one side to release the master.  I hold the mould tight closed with rubber bands.

The stantions have a 1mm spike on their base that goes into an drilled hole on the deck.  I then use the very thin superglue and run it into the joint.  The stantions had to be drilled on top to add a further 5mm of brass rod to mount the wooden railing.

Deck mats and cowls placed but not yet fixed.  The mats are cut by laser.

Progress, with the railings complete and painted.  I am now touching up the paintwork on the hull and I will add the remaining lining in the next few days.

Thank you, I hope to have here complete in the next few months. She needs boats and davits and a lot of small details.

After that I have 130 passengers to paint!  Thats a long winters night task.

Looks like a seriously impressive model  :-)) - great work! Not sure how I missed this build thread, didn't spot it until a few days ago or I'd have posted earlier.

Are the on-water photos taken at Black Park?
