Galway Hooker Line drawing
« on: March 21, 2010, 09:57:41 pm »

Anybody got a line plan for a Galway Hooker. I'm toying with the idea of scratch building one and am looking for a simple line plan that i can develop, even an A4 photo copy would do as its not intended to be a serious scale model so much as an inexpensive representation

Thanks for the info. Do you have the ISBN number of the book (it's usually found on the Page given Info on the publisher) I had a look around for books on Hookers last year and the one I wanted was out of print ---But---There were 2 copies in the States (USA) --- The asking price was $210 and $250 way out of my reach I'm a retired seamen not a Millionaire...

Captmsr: Thanks for posting these super photos --- They really show off the fine entry, Bluff bow and tumble home that characterise the Galway Hooker and make them such fast and seaworthy sailing vessels.  Have you sailed your boat yet??? What are her dimensions??? And weight of ballast? :-))

I have not finished the boat yet. I am thinking about building another for R/C since this is only 14" on deck.  It pretty much looks the same as those pictures.  I made the hardware and have the rigging ready to go on.  The lines are of the Bad Mor TRUE LIGHT and she is a really sweet boat.

If I remember correctly the suffix Mor is  given to the larger Hookers 35 feet + I believe they go up to about 50 foot long ( No doubt I shall be corrected on this)
I had day sail on a 47 footer back in the mid 60's I can't for the life of me remember her name but I do remember it was an extraordinary day sailing on a superb sea boat :-))

Hi
The 4 Sizes of the Galway hookers are the the Bawd Mor at 35 to 44 feet  the LA Wawd at roughly 32feet
The other 2 boats are the Gleoiteog and the smaller still Pucan, Built mainly of Oak and Larch,
