« on: January 15, 2007, 09:09:56 pm »

Hi all
I have seen a product, in an old model rail magazine, its called "instant rust" and from the description it should give a rather good rust look on any kind of models , but I have tried the internet and came up with only US pages ! does anyone knows where I might find it in UK??

Coulld not find instant rust but did find this.

             A three part system that
             puts a realistic scale like
             rust finish onto all types
             of paintable surfaces
             wood plastic metal
             within hours thereby
             creating greater realism
             for all types of modelling.

Can be obtained from http://www.ontracks.co.uk/index.php?page=product&prodID=18094&catID=1143

Hi Richard
Thanks for the info, it is not the product , I have seen, but this seems to do the job too, so if not anyone comes up with information regarding Instant Rust I might try the one you have found.

We have the Three part rust system here in Canada, but what I want to know is: does rust colored paint fair up?  I have just finished painting my TID project and want to weather it heavily, how would you go about it?

Thanks
Kris

Jan, you may have this in Denmark as well! Have a Go to the next artist-shop and ask for pigments (which they use to take for mixing their own colours). It`s a very fine powder, available in nearly every brown tone you can imagine. Once brought on (on the fresh colour) you`ll never get it away. Brilliant stuff.

Hope this was any clue?

If you do a Google search of the web there are quite a lot of items under instant rust.

What is the Humbrol or testors color typically used for rust weathering?

Hi all

Thanks for the info each of you had come up with , I will try to do some weathering on my next project, a Thames tug boat from around 1900, I have bought a hull in Holland from  http://www.scheepsmodelbouw.be/
it is  in scale1:20  given a length of 1250mm aprx 300 mm wide ,so lots of space for whatever you might fill it up with. ;D
