It may be of interest to some members that this multi-award winning series is being shown on TCM shown back-to-back everyday at 9pm from
29th March, Sky channel 317. Last shown 10 years ago.

We've had 2 episodes of " The Pacific" so far in Canada. It's been great, they just left Guadalcanal. They are doing 3 episodes on the Battle of Peleliu based on the book "With the Old Breed". It's a pretty amazing book.
My wife and I got to tour Peleliu in 05 while we were in Palau and I can't wait to see it.

It is probably a little known fact that Nelson was probably the first commander to use the expression "Band of Brothers". He applied it to the ships captains who fought with him in the Battle of the Nile, I think they had a dinner together when they were sailing the same waters.

Find someone with Sky preferably a relation and ask for their Sky viewing card number and install Skyplayer on your PC similar to BBC iPlayer

The "The Pacific" was on re-run on Freeview last week, Excellent I thought.
The scene where the US Marines were on the landing craft, heading for the beach, was very, very  clever!

It was on Sky 3 on Saturday night. The channel had a weekend of programs to try and entice new customers.

I just watched an episode of Pacific on DVD.

A different theatre and a different focus, this time looking more at the effects on the men themselves.

Production values are not as high as on Band of Brothers, but Pacific is a great story that deserves to be told.

It is probably a little known fact that Nelson was probably the first commander to use the expression "Band of Brothers".

Actually Roger, it was Henry V (at least according to Shakespear) "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; for he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother;"

On Sunday, I and other members of the Norfolk Austin Seven Club will be celebrating St George's Day (and Drive It Day - for Classic Cars) by visiting St George's Distillery in Norfolk, which is currently the only English whisky distillery -  http://www.englishwhisky.co.uk/home.html .

Sorry about going off topic and brining in St George -  blame it on God, Harry and England - and the fact I had just read the thread about Saint G!
