Laptop mains adaptor over ampage.
« on: March 24, 2010, 02:31:47 pm »

My laptop powerpack/mains adaptor is bust.

My laptop says Lithium battery.
And 20v 3.25 Amp.

The only mains adaptors I can find where I am is 20v 4.5 Amp.

Can I use this 4.5 Amp mains adaptor or will it damage the battery or laptop?

TT, I would hate to be responsible for the smoke coming out of your laptop, so maybe wait for confirmation from an expert, but I would have thought that as long as the voltage is the same, the laptop will only draw the current that it requires.  Now wait for the comments!  Pete

I agree 4.5 amps is the max current that can be drawn before going pop or shutting down
The laptop will have its own battery management circuitry so everything 'should' be ok
'No money back no guarantee'
It is the voltage thats most important

As long as the voltage in the same and the plug fits, you'll should be fine.

Polarity fine.

I was just worried that the adaptor would be pushing. When in fact it is the laptop that is sucking. And so no problem.

Thanks for the input.

Hi Klunk
Thanks for the kind offer, but I will have to decline.

Firstly due to postage to China.
Secondly the customs man here will probably tax it as IT and that will also cost.

I am up and running now and the item only cost me four quid.

But thanks again for the offer.
