Car Audio Upgrade
« on: March 24, 2010, 05:58:15 pm »

As there seem to be experts on just about anything on Mayhem i wonder if any of you can help me with this one?!

I have recently changed my car to a Mazda 6 (previously had a Mondeo). The car is great and I'm very pleased with it so far but I find that the supplied stereo lacks the depth and timbre of the sound I had from my Mondeo's's Sony unit. I don't want to spend a fortune on an expensive upgrade with sub woofers in the boot etc. but i have read that very often the standard car audio setup can be considerably improved by substituting better speakers for the ones that come with the car.

Is that the case, and if so, will fitting the replacements lead to problems with removing and refitting the door trims which might leave them loose or badly fitting?

Any advice appreciated.

It can do.

Most car door trims are held in with plastic pop fasteners, and you can lose a couple or break them in the process of prizing off the trim, so it helps if you have a few spare.

For good sound, go for the largest speaker you can fit in the space.

Some 6 series have the removable speaker grilles so the speakers can be replaced without disturbing the door card.
Not sure on the newest.

Colin, providing your speakers are 20 to 40 watts changing them will not make much difference but fitting a amplifier would, a 4 channel 600 watt
mini amplifier costs about £25.00

Thanks for the responses. I think I will take it ito a local car audi specialist and see what they advise.
