ESC Feedback

I have a Planet 5 channel 2.4 with the accompanying 6 channel reciever.

The problem.

I have removed the standard RC from a seaport workboat and have fitted out my own RC fittings. The rudder servo is standard and works normally so no problem there.

I have a BEC ESC running the main motor from a 6v 4.5 ah gel. the reciever takes it's power from the same via the BEC. I also have another ESC to run the water squirter which runs from the original 7.2 volt nimh pack that came with the boat. This ESC also feeds back power to the reciever and the other BEC ESC.

Will this cause problems to the reciever?
Will the second ESC work if i just use the signal wire and not the red/black as it should take power from the nimh pack?
would just the white signal wire work on it's own?

You MUST remove the red wire from one of the ESCs. Doesn't matter which one! (Dont remove the black - the signal requires a return path)

I had a feeling it was something like that but just wanted confirmation. I will try it, but make sure i have a way of restoring back it just in case.

Thanks DickyD.

I have another question for you all. I am running a 6v 4.5ah gel cel. the problem i am having is that my ESC will run for a bout 5 secs and then stop, i push the throttle up again and it runs for another 5 and then stops, also reverse is difficult to get as it takes a couple of stick in reverse pushes to get it to cut in. Maybe the ESC is detecting 6v as it's minimum?

Is there an ESC that does not have a low voltage cut out, available as i dont really need one in a boat as i can tell when the battery is getting low?

All BEC-equipped speed controllers have a "low voltage cut-out". It's the point at which the input voltage level is insufficient to produce a regulated output and it's called the drop-out point. On most ESCs it's at 5.5volts. If you don't want this to happen then either keep your battery fully-charged; use a higher-voltage battery (e.g. 7.2v) or buy an ESC without BEC. Modesty prevents me from recommending one...............

....or you could remove the red wire from the other ESC and use a separate 4.8 or 6 volt battery pack for the receiver.
