Motor for a Puffer
« on: April 02, 2010, 11:48:01 am »

Hy Guys
What would be the recomended motor to give scale speed for a 1/24 Puffer, 34 inches long by 10, 1/2 inch  beam, running at either 6 volt or 12. The ones I have would be to powerfull.
Many Thanks

Hi Bosun

My puffer is the same size as yours.  She has a Buhler motor in her I don't know the model no but it is 48mm diameter and 65mm long running on 6 volt.  Hope this is of some use to you.   :-))

SPEED 900  {-) only kidding , i am in the middle of a puffer build about 36"X10" and have a MMM 540 in running of a 3 blade 50mm prop (plastic at the moment but will be a brass one when i get one).
Not had it in the water yet so dont know how it will perform , still on the buliding table .

Hy Guys
Thanks for the replies, I did,nt really want to go to MMD, for the 555 as in Martins Puffer. I had heard a lot of bad stuff, maybe i,m wrong but did,nt want to chance it.
So I had a word with Mark from Marks Model Bits, ( he only lives down the road), between us we sorted things out. The thing is when you talk to Mark on the phone he can keep you on there for ages,  this time, 74 minutes to be exact. those of you who know him will know what I mean, ( sorry Mark but you cant stay on the phone all day and let poor old Ange do all the work) >>:-
We decided in the end to use one of my stock motors, 12 volt 12 pole, keep of the throttle or come down to 6 volt.
 Many Thanks
Bosun

Its not a real problem Daz, its just that 540's are buggy type high revving motors.
